huh? online poker in the usa is illegal?
At the federal level, no. As DJ said, a few states have outlawed it.

Aside from those exceptional states, a lot of people have the mistaken impression that online poker is "illegal" in the US. This is largely due to the FUD spread by the DOJ in years past.

The UIGEA never mentioned poker, nor did it declare what types of gaming were and were not legal. It simply made it illegal for financial institutions to process funding for online gaming that was already deemed illegal via established law. And no federal law ever deemed online poker illegal. For a long time the DOJ trotted out The Wire Act (passed in 1961, long before the concept of online gaming, and dealing primarily with interstate sportsbetting) as it's basis for declaring online poker illegal, but fortunately came to their senses and announced last year that it did not in fact apply to online poker. Conveniently enough for them, however, it did not change their plan with regards to the Black Friday charges, because they were charging Stars and FT with other crimes such as money laundering... which the sites were "forced" into to continue servicing the US due to the misapplied UIGEA situation. It's not an excuse for the lengths the sites went to to keep us playing, and certainly not an excuse for the shenanigans Tilt pulled in running their operation, but it's still pretty scummy of the DOJ in how they dealt with the whole mess.

But back to the point, again, online poker has never been illegal in the US at the federal level.

This is a great thread, I enjoyed reading all about it. I'm really hoping P.S re-opens to US player, and I also prefer P.S over F.T.P. I don't have money in F.T.P but I hope everyone that does to get refunded.

* Can someone please update this thread, I really want to hear what been going on and what may happen in the future for US players.

Thanks

Yep, I jumped the gun a bit there. Wasn't guaranteeing anything, just stating what the news story said.

Yeah, I know. So many of those type of stories out there without any type of source. I certainly hope it's true. Would be a great way to start the summer for me.

Guess I got to wait another two weeks to hear anything about this rumor. I'll keep fingers crossed so that US players can get back on to P.S :D

I haven't been here in a while, as i stopped playing online after black friday, but god I miss playing online. I would love for Stars to make a return to the US market, but I doubt that happens before 2013, and even then it could be quite a bit longer.

Wow long time no see Chuck.

I'd take almost every single post with a pinch of salt until there is an "official" statement from stars tbh.

Apparently someone doesn't agree with you. Obama said on The View that JP Morgan was "one of the best managed banks" and praising chairman and chief executive Jamie Dimon as "one of the smartest bankers we got".

Boy are we ever in trouble.

Or had a mortgage through them. :s: My experience with that bank has left me with the conviction that I will NEVER do business with them again, even if they're the last bank on Earth. I'll hide my money under my mattress first!
