PokerNews reported the recent policy changes YouTube that may directly affect poker content creators. Back in August, poker player and content creator Kevin Martin posed a possible dilemma regarding his viewership on X.

I don't really see poker videos as that much of a risk to minors. Poker videos tend to teach a skill, which is okay in my view for anyone to learn.

"The part that kills me is my audience is 99.8% adults. Minors watching my content is not a problem. Meanwhile degenerate content like live slots, live blackjack etc have no restrictions," the content creator continued.

If it's true this policy does not apply to slots videos, then it is seriously wrong. Slots are pure gambling and the only purpose of slots videos is to glamorize them. They should definitely not be seen by minors.

I think it applies to slots too:

I'm wondering if that has to do with what happened to a couple of Tech creators last week. They had a few of their videos removed. One of them had a strike even. The problem is that when they appealed, they couldn't talk to anyone but AI. Imagine a video about "how to install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware " being qualified as dangerous and physically harmful!??

YouTube deals with over 720,000 hours of videos uploaded every day. So, ofc they had to rely on AI. And that's scrambling things up.

I hope it's the same case with poker content and things will go back to normal as it did yesterday with the Tech content.

I wonder? It's not clear to me whether what they link to as their "current policy" included the following, or if the linked document has already been amended in anticipation of the Nov 17 change date:

Age-restricted content

Sometimes content doesn't violate our policies, but it may not be appropriate for viewers under 18.

Examples of age-restricted content

  • ....
  • Content that facilitates access to, promotes, or depicts online gambling, and social/sweepstakes casinos, including content from certified sites.

If the above is "current" policy then one of their biggest slots promotors, Lady Luck, is in violation.

Several channels with great content lost everything and are starting to post again.

I think Brad Owen has complained about this issue way back, so restricting content might have started before it was official. Even Doug Polk might have mentioned it. It's unfortunate because they work so hard to put out good quality content to attract a new generation of players and eventually, new talent. It just goes to show you that you cannot tie yourself to only one source of income as an entrepreneur. Your business model might change or your business might go bust and that might leave you in a precarious financial situation.

The new laws are atrocious. We need to take back this world from corrupt politicians and corrupt EU!

More political nonsense where the big companies say yes to whoever is in power (and it doesn't matter from what side of the political aisle) instead of standing up.

Hello it's a shame because there is very good information there. Won't they do it to charge something to those who upload these videos?

I don't understand why some countries see poker as a bad thing, placing restrictions, and now YouTube, they see poker as a kind of bingo or casino.
