I am generally a low stakes player (.10/.25-.25/.50----ring) and ($5-$15----SnG's and MTT's). As I build my bankroll, I would like to test the waters on some higher stakes games as well when my roll is suited for it.

My question to those who play the higher stakes games would be how much different is the play from the lower stskes games?

In low stakes you have many people check calling down to the river with an ace, or on a draw, or with low pair, etc. It's generally easy to tell when they catch because they will just check call the whole time and then reraise if they hit there set, flush, 2 pair. It's pretty easy to read.

Do you still have these fish at the higher stakes or is the play generally much stronger and tougher to read?

I am pretty new to the forum but have enjoyed reading your insights so far, so I figured I would run this one by you as well.

From my limited experience (30ish s&g's and 100ish cash games) I'd say that a general pattern I've noticed is that on the lower limit games you get alot of beginners, i.e. people that appear to be making more mistakes than you might see at higher limit. Many times I have won an all-in against someone who seems to be bored and went all-in with crap cards. I know sometimes a good player MAY go all-in with not such good cards but it seems to happen too often in low-limit games, specially sit&go tournies.
That said, one of the beautiful things about poker is that amatures will play at every level (if they are rich enough), so I'm sure the odd awful player will be on the high limit tables. I guess the only way to find out is to try.
