The rake in poker

Hello people, I have played poker a lot (5 YEARS) but it was always a hobby, style to play in meetings with friends or some other freeroll in pokerstars and win little and nothing, but the last time I started to focus a lot and I realized Of the terrible rake that is charged in pokerstas that at least is the client that I play, honestly from my point of view it seems like a robbery but hey, what do you think? and in which rooms they play where the rake is more or less acceptable

Anything above 10 percent is robbery.

Poker is IMO the only game in a casino that requires real skill (aside from counting cards in blackjack, but that’s pretty much over with auto shufflers lol) they are not a charity for others to make money so they have the rake to make their profits. Think about it, if you owned a casino where you designed every game/slot/whatever to make a profit wouldn’t you do the same with poker? Online servers and staff cost, my view is keep striving to be better than the rake

Being a pro at this game is not easy, and the rake is the real challenge of making money at poker in my opinion.

It costs a lot to house games..I can’t remember where I heard/read it, but a casino removed half of their poker tables to put in a dance floor/bar instead because of the projected profits, and to actually pay their bills. It’s all about numbers, I see the rake as acceptable in terms of costs of running a business with staff, and to make an actual profit because that’s what a ‘business’ does lol.

Having a multi million dollar casino or online servers doesn’t just come from thin air, lol it costs money and that money is from the rake if you play poker in either.

As for percentages I don’t know the actual costs of running the business and staff, Perhaps they are making a great deal of money off the rake, but where else are you going to play? Your friends den? Lol
I just look at the rake as part of the game, it’s not going to change and it’s a challenge to out win the costs of the rake

Different rooms have different rake structure, so it completely depends on, which games you want to play.

* For cash games you generally find the lowest rake on PokerStars, especially in the micros, but other rooms might have better rake-back deals.

* For MTTs Stars is expensive up to 16,5$, and above that its pretty much the same on all poker sites. 888 Poker have some MTTs, that are bargains, like their 2,2$ and 5,5$ R+As, their 7,5$ PKO, their 21$ KO and their 25$ "classic".

* For 45-180 man SnGs the rake on Stars is reasonable, and no other poker room really have them.

* For 6-18 man SnGs the rake on Stars decline, as you move up, and in my opinion its to high, until you get to 7$. ACR seem to be a better choise for the low buyin SnGs.

don’t look at the rake percentage at all, online poker is such a game that there is no hope for rake. They give chests and the opportunity to jackpot for coins - that's all for me. Otherwise, yes. We are being robbed, and robbed on a large scale!

I’m confused here lol, where else would the money come from to house these games for millions of players? Magic? Lord of the rings?

The rake is practical. Like I said, get skilled to beat the rake, or play at your buddy’s place with matchsticks for chips and a big bag of bulk priced potato chips (Different kind of chips, but since we are talking socialism and what not, let’s make sure everyone gets free food as well lol!)

Poker sites are designed like any company to make a profit, as there is no monthly fee to play on poker sites, rake is required. Now, whether the rake is high or not, this can be discussed, but for a poker site to have good servers, money is needed, so you pay for excellence.

We are talking billions . might cost million or two for cost but profitis way up there. The idea was keep it small and it wouldn't be noticeable . As stars got popular cost has gone up. Limited places to play with growing numbers it was a no brainer. Now poker boom is done greed can't retreat . I agree some cost should come from hands but the rake is thinning out the herds .

I have reas somwhere that about 70% of money tht people deposit in poker goes to poker rooms.
And also read somwhere that PS makes like 4 milions $ a day.
You think this is a fair rake?

Yeah they charge way too much. But well what can anyone do about it. All poker rooms are prety much the same. Casino always wins.
Also in live casinos rake is the same btw.

Poker Stars had a very reasonable rake and they used to be a great site.

However, in the aftermath of Black Friday, the original owner sold the site to someone else.
The people who bought it paid a lot of money for Poker Stars.
But they didn't have a lot of cash on hand, they borrowed most of the purchase price from banks.
Then it was discovered they might be playing financial funny games behind the scenes and Quebec prosecuted them for it, which ended in acquittal.
But after all of that mess, the site was sold yet again.
Each time the site is sold, the price goes higher and higher.
And the debt gets bigger and bigger.

So to make my long story a shorter story...
...that is why today Poker Stars rake is absurd and a travesty.
It didn't start this way, and it never should have ended up this way.
As an American, I only blame one party for this entire mess.
My own damn US Federal Government who started the entire downfall of Poker Stars by their illegal, unethical and immoral actions of April 15, 2011.
Actions which to this very day have still not been remedied.

I have never played there as I do not live in a state where I can play PS, I would have to see to answer that, by that I mean I would have to get a feel for the site (algos etc) to see if the rake is ‘fair’. I am actually through giving my opinions of online poker and am only focused on live games moving forward. I don’t want to ruin anyone’s fun, because after all the online games are fun even if you lose money. I am just at a point where playing online is too distracting from the dynamics of live poker play. That is not me saying “I am too good to play online”, it’s just how I remain focused on the game of poker that I am interested in. I see the game of poker (online and live) as two totally different games, and I like to invest energy in one game until I reach a decent level of gameplay.

This is an argument for UBI as much as for taking the power to create credit away from the banks.

Hi . Yeah ,the rake in pokerstars at least has changed alot over the years and it feels that things are only getting worse .It seems that nowadays they try to capitalize on rake as much as possible that's why they invented the biggest rake trap: Tempest Poker on pokerstars .
But disregarding that ,you can get some rakeback if you play smart and not focus on the impossible challenges like 400$ challenge where you need to generate around 2000$ in rake in a month to get 20% of that back .Unless you have a bankroll of 5000$+ and the stakes you play are minimum 2/4$ that's pretty impossible .
In my opinion focus more on the play ,less on the rake .You won't get that much back anyway .Just my opinion

While I can understand why people dont want to pay the rake, how do we think they stay in business. The rake is our cost to play in the sites. The other option would be paying a flat rate t play on there site. What would it be? $10.00 a month, 25 or more. While I am sure the people who play higher stakes would love the flat fee option when it come to the lower levels we should not complain.

I can do with the rake which isnt outrageous and also the fact that I play at my home instead of driving to a poker room will make up for it
