Ben Roethlisberger suspended

What does everyone think about this?

I'm kind of glad since the Falcons have to play the Steelers in game one of the regular season.

The suspension is 6 games for violating NFL's personal conduct policy.

But seriously, I think it was necessary. The NFL's conduct policy states that players can be punished any behavior that is detrimental the the image of the league. This clearly fits that bill, so Roethlisberger wasn't going to get away with it, especially as this is his second incident.

I believe Big Ben's time with the Steelers is becoming very short. His ignorance and disregard for other people (especially women) has turned the local fans and owners against him, and done irreparable damage to his ability to lead the team there. I also think that he's brought it all onto himself due to his loutish, crude behavior. I hope he's dealt to the Raiders where he can wallow in mediocrity. The NFL doesn't need low-lifers like him ruining it's already tarnished image. Examples: Vick, Stallworth, Henry, and Pacman Adams. I hope he just fades away.

This s#&T is serious... he's been accused at least twice now of this kind of "violation". I'm not saying that makes him automatically guilty, but it doesn't look good. If he is guilty than it really sucks they're not pressing charges and putting him where he belongs... behind bars.

He deserves the suspension.. He makes alot of serious money, and yet conducts himself like a utter pig in public towards women. Where there's smoke there's fire.. He should be locked up imo but everyone may have a opinion that differs from mine.

As a lifelong Bengals fan, this puts a smile on my face. My team is the posterchild for off-the-field issues. Finally, the Steelers have snatched that crown from us in the short term.

The real question here is whether the NFL has the right to punish a player who has not been convicted of any crime. Granted, it looks like his behavior is despicable, based on the evidence that's been made public. However, there is a reason for our legal process, and that's to protect individuals from being punished without due process. Personally I think the league has overextended itself in this case and may be setting a dangerous precedent.

I like it. It means the NFL can basically do what it wants with it's product.

They can suspend anyone for anything at any time!

I like it too. I mean, honestly, this isn't the first time he's been into trouble with the law or the league. I think he's just a dude that thinks he's really cool and needs to grow up. His fame has gone to his head. I hope they trade him to someone else, just to make a point. Players like this aren't worth their talent... its like having a really hot chick thats a total bitch... sure its ok at first but that gets old, really fast...

They are not punishing him by putting him in prison. The NFL is a privatized entity, it's not Federal or State. They have their own codes of behavior, and when you sign that contract, you accept the terms of it. It's just like any private company. They can outline what is not acceptable clothing, drinking on company time, etc. And they can enforce penalties however they want, as long as not in violation of the law. A suspension for what the NFL (or in this case the Steelers, as they will penalize Ben even if the NFL does not) concludes is repeated bad behavior is not the law's jurisdiction.

I think the suspension is just fair, even though the DA couldn't find "enough" information to make a case, I think Ben is making the same mistakes over and over again, this is the second time something like this comes up (like pokerchild69 said Where there's smoke there's fire). You should know better, you are a Super Star Pro Athlete, if you wanna have sex, don't grab a drunk teenager and take her to a bathroom of a nightclub while your security guards the door, HIRE A PROSTITUTE OR AN ESCORT AND TAKE IT TO YOUR SUITE. Is that too difficult? -Well, I'll tell you what's not too difficult for Roger Goodell, handing you a 6 game suspension.

well last year the raiders beat the steelers with ben in the game, i think his suspention is a little strict six is much but they say he'll only serve four weeks with good behavior

From the allegations against him he did do something wrong.

But remember this, you are innocent until proven guilty.

He was never found guilty by anyone except by one person in a suite that had to go to a draft to meet and greet new players.

Other players have killed dogs and they are back in the league. Which is worse killing animals or allegedly doing something.

He's not fighting his suspension, even though he's about to lose more than $1 million in pay, not to mention what reputation he has left. That tells me he knows he's gettin away with one. He may be a victim of a drunk girl cashing in like Tyson was, but not fighting it smells of guilt.

Your reason may be why he is not figthing it. I agree with you it's another situation I feel where someone is trying to cash in. Ben should have never put himself in that situation. Any player at that level probably should not be hanging out in bar like that.
