BB's defense is fine, I think


Flop: My hand is favorable, I think check-raise is a good idea.


T: I also had a line puller. The opening was poor, I have a lot of good ones, I should have filled 60-80% of the pot, but you can't give up here, can you? What do you think? What can he have? J2? 22? A5S? A4S?

I like check-raising here, but I would go a bit larger to set it up for an easy river jam.

Turn
You pick up 3 more outs to a straight, and there are basically two ways to play this. You can either take a free card and try to get there. Or you can make a more substantial bet, try to get him to fold some hands right now, and set it up to potentially fire the big river bluff, when you miss. As played you need almost 40% equity to call his massive overbet, which you dont have, so its a pretty clear fold.

And what would have been the better play, Turnon? A bigger raise or a check? The turn card didn't help him unless he had 22, my raise was small, he sensed my weakness and that's why he went all-in, he might not have gone all-in on a bigger raise, anyway, I would have had a straight on the river.

The issue with the turn card is, it did not help you either, so it was not, what we call a scare card. Meaning that if he liked his hand enough on the flop to bet and then call a raise, then he probably still like it now. So in itself I dont think, a turn bet get quite enough folds. But as I said, it has the advantage of setting you up for making a very large river bet, weather you get there or not. So I am ok with both lines and would mix them up.

For the record I dont think, he was bluffing or "attacking weakness" with this massive bet. To me it looks more like a strong hand not wanting to see the last card, because the board is quite wet. Could be a flopped set or a hand like 65, which just got there. So I definitely think, you made a good fold, and this time better larger would just have lost you more.

First of all, Happy New Year!



This is a good approach. If you give up on the flop, then Trun 2 won't be scary for him, and with this card, the betting share won't increase.
