This is the first event of the New Year Series on pokerstars, the tournament is a $3.30 Mystery Bounty with a huge field and prize for a $3.30 tournament. I have played 66 hands until now...so a bit more then 1 hour, with still a lot time to late reg.

MP Stats after only 17 hands at this table: VPIP 6 PFR 6 ----- he played only 1 hand at this table.
BU stats after 36 hands : VPIP 44 PFR 17 Limp 14 Cold Call 50

PokerStars, $2.94 + $0.36 - Hold'em No Limit - 350/700 (90 ante) - 8 players

UTG: 25,000 (36 bb)
UTG+1: 34,484 (49 bb)
MP: 23,880 (34 bb)
MP+1: 46,007 (66 bb)
CO: 34,506 (49 bb)
BU: 25,893 (37 bb)
SB (Hero): 29,000 (41 bb)

BB: 74,565 (107 bb)

Pre-Flop: (1,770) Hero is SB with K A
1 fold, UTG+1 raises to 1,400, MP 3-bets to 4,200, 2 players fold, BTN calls 4,200, Hero ?

What do you guys think is the best action here from SB? Still no bounties yet, still a lot to play before late reg closes.
What range has the MP? How about BU?

You Know AK is a tricky hand.

Sometimes MP range for a 3-bet AQs+, TT+ , AQo+.
Button calling range(can be very wide) could be any pair, some suited connectors (mainly in the broadway section but not only) and the same top range as MP´s 3-betting range.

A 4-bet can be too much with the action before but is not the badest play here, a flat call may open the opprtunity to 5-bet AI for the UTG+1 player to take the large amount of dead money.

Sometimes a fold of AKs PF can be the right move to gather more information an keep the stack healthy.

If you don´t mind to rebuy play as AI.

MP should be on a somewhat tight range 3-betting from this position, but he only has 34BB, and the HUD-stats dont give any real information after just 17 hands. Also AKs is a really strong hand preflop. You block AA and KK, and its not a disaster to get called by TT-QQ at this stage of the tournament especially with some overlay, if you only get action from one player. So for me even with AKo I would just get it in here, whereas I would fold AQo and also AQs. I would not have any range for cold calling the 3-bet out of position.

This is an all in unless you don't want to rebuy.

We want to think about Metagame here because most often we are going to have low equity vs multiple players. which means we are going to lose often but win big if we win. What are the Metagame strategies for this spot--

1 We need a big stack to win MB's-- There are 2 ways to get a big stack --take thin margins like this or constantly chip up in larger equity advantage spots.

2 We can rebuy-what is a starting stack size right now? If it is near our stack size, we can take this thin spot more easily.

3 Do we have a skill edge? Are there players on our table making large EV mistakes? We can let this thin spot go and scoop chips from the weak players on our table--We have to use a strong ISO strat for that, is that something you have studied?

4 What are the table dynamics at play? What are the ranges for this spot? If our V are all top of range when they do this then use Equilab to build tight ranges to estimate your equity to get a clear picture of this spot.

5 How quickly do the blinds increase--slow blinds mean we do not need to take spots like this as it allows us to use our skill edge more frequently.

As to range what you will find most often is someone has pairs and someone else or more than 1 has Ax or Kx blocking some of your outs.
