Are 10s much better than 9s for shoving?

Do you think the power gap from 9s to 10s is bigger than from 8s to 9s?

Or do you see yourself in a situation where you would play 10s but fold 9s?

yes, against most ranges, 1010 will net better results than 99, just as 99 will net better results than 88.

vs a 100% range:

88 = 69.2% equity
99 = 72.1% equity
1010 = 75% equity

vs a 25% range:

88 = 53.5% equity
99 = 57% equity
1010 = 61.8% equity

it's only when you're looking at a range of jj+ where 1010 has less equity compared to 88 or 99 because of the straight draw equity jj+ has if a 10 hits on the flop. vs this range:

88 = 19.1% equity
99 = 18.9% equity
1010 = 18.7% equity

if you add aks to that range, equity goes up slightly but 1010 has slightly less because of the straight draw if a 10 hits.:

88 = 23.9% equity
99 = 23.7% equity
1010 = 23.6% equity

is there a situation where i'd fold 99 but play 1010? probably not. against really wide ranges, it's only ~3-5% difference between 99 and 1010. and i'm still a big favorite with 99. so, it situations where i'd call with 1010, i'd likely do the same with 99.

If your talking about under 10BB. Then 10s is better for shoving.

10s vs 9s. 10s is better than 9s however in terms of full equity, its pratically 50/50 since most players calling the shove will likely have two over cards thus resulting in a coin flip situation.

If you mean open-shoving, tens are of course slighly better.
And if there are for instance two all-ins before me and I also want to shove my dwindling stack, then I will likely fold 99 but push (call the all-ins) with my Tens.

For me you have to consider the dynamics of the tournament.. First, middle, end stage. how much big blinds do you have.. your position.. is the table loose or tight.. but generally 9s is in the same range of 10s so play it the same way

Of course 10-10 is better than 9-9 but the percentages are negligible. Generally speaking, unless I'm short stacked, I'm not shipping my stack in pre-flop with either of these hands, unless I have a reason to suspect that someone is trying to make a move on me.

Many people shove on TTs. I think it's supposed to be a hand that gives the player various ranges in their favour. If you play them too often, it becomes predictable. I wouldn't shove with a pair 99s. Never been lucky enough to flop trips or higher with them. Too many opportunities for others to go over the top.

10s are much much better for shoving. In fact the three starting hands that the new statistics show are best for shoving pre flop are AK, A5s and 10,10. I don’t know the exact math behind it but that’s what it shows.

I put them both in the same range of hands. If I am willing to play 10's I most defently am playing the 9's. While its always player dependent I start to worry when is 7's and lower for the most part.
