I can't believe I did this: Playing step 2 of Poker Stars Power Path, with 186 left of about 800, and 181 tickets to Step Three. I was in about 90th position, with about ten big blinds, and was just waiting - no need to play anymore before getting my ticket. Only five more to be knocked out.

Two hands earlier I had folded AA, and now in the big blind I had 88. The little blind called and I checked. The flop was 8 Q 10, or something like that. Little blind (who had more chips than me) bet big and for some reason I went all-in, with trip 8s. He called and the play was so quick I still don't know exactly what happened, but the next thing I knew was that he had a straight and I was out!

How could I do that?

yes, if your goal was the ticket, which it was, you should of sat out and not even looked at your hands.

We have all been there and done that before, as long as you learn from your mistake and make sure you do
not good it again it is a lesson learnt that will help your poker in the future.
I remember doing the same thing as you in a tourney, with 11 players left and the top 10 paid I got aces and went allin
to steal the blinds and my opponent got trip 2's and the 10th prize was $199 so I was sick but I have never done it again.

That's the bad news.

Good news is if you're smart you'll play 19+ years and never do that again. I learned this lesson the hard way just like you. Even in the same spot BB only I had AA with 20bb left. Small raise from the button I just called. Flopped trips and ended up beat by straight. Villain barely had me covered.

Never made that mistake again. Now when I know I'm good to go and have the ticket I just sit-out and walk away.

Technically you probably made the right play, but under the circumstances, I'm sorry but I cannot help having a giggle. You could have just sat out and still got your ticket. Instead you got greedy.

Just remember your risk vs reward next time you find yourself in that spot again. When you win that hand nothing changes, you are still going to be one of 181 tickets, you gain absolutely nothing here. Basically those chips you gain have little to no value. But when you lose, those chips mean everything. When I first started at no limit I was in a tournament and got to the top 3. I was second in chips. The guy with the low stack had only a couple of BBs left. I look at pocket 10s and go all in. I get called by the chip leader and he has JJ and i loose, out 3rd just like that. I just gave away real money to that short stack. I still won around 800.00 which I was happy for but what could have been lol

I understand you. I had such a situation in a game for tickets, it will always remain in my memory. It’s a pity, of course. But hang in there. This is a good lesson for the future. I’m sure you will have many more victories.

I think most of us have felt that sting one time or another. Most learn from this experience, some...not so much! I guess there are no guaranteed wins in poker if we play against ourselves!

Sometimes you need to prioritize: if you're on the waiting list - yes, sit tight and wait; if you're in the tour for real money - play if you think it's the right move and if you lose, you'll know that you did everything possible, rather than thinking about what you could have done. Yes, I agree - it's necessary to learn a lesson from the situation, but don't dwell on it and don't internalize fear of such situations, and they will repeat! Don't despair! Good luck to you!

when you're definitely winning ballet prizes, just take your time and wait for the short ones to come out, because there's always a chance that you'll be run over with cards, your hands confirm this

You were just unlucky to have a lapse in concentration, but I would probably have done the same. To be honest any runner runner pair of cards would have given you a Full house, even if they were Jacks or 9s also any card on the flop pairing would have done the same, So before the turn you had plenty of outs,
Making trips on the flop is massive lead over many hands, and very hard to lay down even when you think you could be beaten, Just put it down to experience and maybe next time you will win.

Hello, I think your situation has happened to many of us, even in more important tournaments. It's hard to control the urge, even in AA it was difficult, as a tip for the next time I recommend that you go away and not play. The best option is to simply not go, but to cover the area where your cards appear with some paper to avoid the temptation to play hands.

Great example on how we should overfold the satties bubbles when we are guaranteed to getting a spot.

fold AA it's bad but if the prizes are the same it's a good fold,but if you fold AA why do you call 88?
