More of a question than comment.
I read "Put your opponent on a hand" on a regular basis.
How many people genuinely think, playing low limit poker MTTs < $5, that's really possible more than a VERY small % of the time?

I agree. Unless you grind the same levels day in and day out, and cumulate information about your opponents along the way, it is quite impossible in the micros. What I've noticed, people who use those phrases usually play with much higher stakes and smaller fields.

If you truly believe it’s impossible to narrow down their ranges then disregard this message.

But if not, let’s talk about it.
Aside from playing, what steps have you taken to improve your ability to range your opponents?

I use notes on Pokerstars. I play PLO8 so when I'm in the money I come across the same players. Those I've got a better "Read" on - Raises when checked to/ slow play/ etc.

My point is, when playing big MTTs, I don't think it's possible before the first 75% of field are iliminated, to put people on a hand.
In NLHE, how many will call a raise OOP with J3s and take down pot with 2 pair?
Obviously, over time that won't be a profitable play for the fish, but it could be a tourny braker for the player with a good "Read"

No, because I was asking others to comment, so it was a question.

Comment on what? Agree with you that it’s impossible to range them? Curse them for calling you with a weak hand and outflopping you?

Either
You want to get better at ranging these types of opponents. Share what you’ve tried so far so we have an idea of where you’re at. Even if it’s nothing. Get some suggestions. Come up with a plan to improve. Follow through with it and then evaluate your results and hopefully share those too.

Or
You truly believe it’s impossible to improve at this skill and just want to whine about fish and their luck

Only one of those options is worth anyone’s time

First things first, I'm a winning player over the years playing online, so I might have an idea of what I'm doing.
Is it possible the question was worded incorrectly?
Should it read "Is it possible to put players on a hand & how in 300+ field MTTs, NLHE, Freerole or micro stakes buyin..."
Would not fit in the title.
Anyone that doesn't whine on about fish is lying - or a bot.
Instead of having a pop at the intent of the question that you obviously don't know, tell me what u do?

I've found reviewing hand histories after every session in PT4 to be the most helpful for improving my hand reading.

Basically a HUD?
I've looked at a few but not sure what's right for me. I play lots of PLO8 on Pokerstars & now and then NLHE.
I'm more of an SNG/ MTT player than a cash game grinder - I find having a specific target helps me.
HUDs seem a nightmare to set up?

Highly highly recommend you invest in pokertracker. I wasn’t specifically talking about the Hud portion I was talking about going back after you’re done playing and filtering for specific types of hands and reviewing those spots that are troublesome. For example you could look at all the 3 bet pots, all the pots where you cbet flop and got called, etc. stuff like that has been so helpful to me not repeating the same mistakes over and over.

But on the hud: The hud itself is for in game and that is really helpful to especially if you build up a lot of hands on a player. They aren’t hard at all to set up. If I can figure it out you most certainly can, and there’s plenty of articles and videos free out there to show you how. So don’t let that stop you.

But yeah man, definitely consider getting the hand tracking software so you can review your play, can’t recommend it enough. Best investment you can make imo.

Let me know what you decide to do. I’m always trying to get better at ranging and I like to see what other people find helpful to see if it’s something I want to try for myself

I agree, but you also have to take into account that there is a person who reserves and only pays the big and small blinds when it is their turn, and then they wait for the addon to be able to play a little more aggressive.
