Do you believe it is possible for a recreational poker player to reach the final table of a major tournament and win a good prize? Have you ever heard of any case like this?

Yes any player is capable of running very well in a tournament. It happens a lot. Jamie Gold in the 2006 Main Event comes to mind.

Every single MTT has a big "lottery" component since you have to win coin-flips when the blinds get big.

I think Dan Harrington said that not even the best player in the world has twice the edge on an average poker player in a big tournament. So if you see your entry buy-in like you are buying a ticket, the pros don't get like two tickets. Maybe 1,25 tickets against yours if you at least are semi-competent.

Possible? Most definitely, I watched the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, where many of the players were on-line Qualifiers who had never been to a Casino before, and I remember one young guy from Argentina finished on the Final Table winning Thousands of Dollars, he said it was Life changing money for his Family and will buy his Mother a nice house.
Another Guy from the Ukraine was so poor he sold his Flight to the Caribbean, to pay off some bills, but kept the poker Seat and Hotel reservation, when it was time to travel he borrowed money from Friends to Fly out and made the Money bubble, which was more than the cost of the Flight so he could repay his Friends and still have money left over.
So Yes! Dreams can come True!

It has happened plenty of times. Skill is just one important factor - the best players don't always win. There are a lot of recreational players who have taken down 1st place even though pros were in the tournament.

Chris Moneymaker was a recreational player when he won the main event.

A very low percentage around 05%-20% while professionals around 40% - 60% will certainly make money allowing them to maintain their bankroll. Teachers are at the forefront, knowing more. They dictate the table and how your tournament will go. While the recreationalists are trying to hit their pairs or flops

You can count on your skill, as a professional already has your skill and has more knowledge of what betting is like and the time it takes to place a bet. Times to run away or steal

Yes, it all depends on luck if you have a strong lead in the tournament, you will win the tournament even as an amateur you will beat professional players, the main thing is that the tournament is very strong then you will win sometimes not the strongest player wins but whoever is luckier

Of course, I think, any player, including and of the recretional players, can to reach a final table in any tournament and win his! Why not?!
Because in Poker the many things often depend on Luck! And simply of any recretional player in definite moment can very Luck, as example in any lottery!

Yes, it is possible we have several examples of recreational players who won a good prize, due to the fact that poker is long term. In the short term, any player can win a good prize if they have a good day!

If it is possible and it has happened. The most notable was Chris Moneymaker who won the WSOP main event after qualifying in a satellite as a recreational player.
