Tilt is one of a poker player's biggest enemies.
How do you deal with the inclination in poker tournaments?

What strategies do you use to stay calm and make rational decisions even when things aren't going well?

Discussion Questions:

1. What are the main triggers for tilt in poker tournaments?

2. How do you manage your emotions during a poker marathon?

3. What strategies do you use to recover from a bad session?

4. How do you prevent the inclination from affecting your decision-making in the game?

Purpose: The purpose of this topic is to share experiences and strategies to overcome tilt and improve performance in poker tournaments. Let's discuss how we can stay calm, control our emotions, and make rational decisions, even in difficult situations.

1. I only have one main trigger to tilt. My own mistakes, that call when you know you should fold and call, that bluff that is obviously a bad one.. when I do those, gosh.. it breaks me down hard!

2. Well, like right exactly now! I try to sit out and come to cardschat forum to easy my mind a bit.

3. Study more, and review that one tournament I think I had it all and yet loose it. Those are where I find my dumb mistakes to get better to the next session.

4. That's the gold bar question to which if I had the answer I would probably be playing much higher stakes then what I am now hehehe.. let me know when you get that one hehehehe.,

For me its losing several games in a row. I never play just one tournament but always a cluster of either SnGs or MTTs. And if things are constantly not going in my favour, then that can be tilting. Can be bad beats or coolers but also things like arriving at the bubble of a SnG as the chip leader, but then the other players just wont bust. Like every time someone is all-in and at risk, they get lucky and dubble up, either from me or from each other, and eventually I am the short stack and dont get lucky.

Deep breathing and positive thinking.

What does it even mean to "recover"? Money lost is not coming back, and each session or for that matter each hand is independent on the previous one. So I just need to get back on the horse and try to play well. If my bankroll has declined significantly, maybe I need to move down, but thats more or less it.

If I am beginning to feel tilted, I stop adding more games. And then usually the reduced pace of decision making is enough to calm me down, so I can finish the remaining games in a orderly fashion. Sometimes it will even happen, that I start to run hot in one of the remaining games and perhaps turn the entire session into a winning one.

At the beginning I had a hard time with it, I mainly play MTTs and there is even more variance there, I was so stressed to get to the final table, the more frustrated I became, you have to accept that there are days when nothing will work, the next day you have to go through the competitions again with a clear head and ask for help with hand analysis, and a good bankrolled so you don't have to worry about rebuilding, that's how I try to improve:)

Expecting your hand to win and then losing the hand. The surprise is shocking and can tilt.
For me the fastest way to avoid tilt is to forgive.

I forgive a lot lol.
And, emotionally dead. Leave all emotions out.

Be kind to myself. Eat well. Drink lots of water, juice, tea.
Reach out to loved ones I haven't connected with in a while.
Talk about anything besides that poker session.

Keep my focus on the next hand. How can I keep winning so I make it to the next break?
