What are the main adjustments between a mtt and a sng

I am just curious on how I should adjust my play besides obviously adjusting for the one table dynamic and loosening my range further in tournament in a sng. Any big tips I find mtt more fun due to the possibility of huge cashes but I find sngs more challenging and profitable.

Well MTT there are many players, and a very low chance of cashing big, so you have to set yourself up to make those big cashes, which means putting your stack at risk, so your chips are worth less essentially until you reach the final table, at which point it basically becomes a SNG.

SNG is all about making money, and cashing at a certain rate. The thing about SNG is that you can make the money by folding everyhand, so theres no need to make moves, tighter play works early, and your chips overall are worth much more.

I highly suggest reading colin moshmans book, i cant for the life of me remember what it's called but it should be easy to find, read that and it will explain the inner workings of ICM and how chip values differ from MTT and SNG.

MTT's are certainly more challenging I can tell you that for sure! If you think MTT's are less challenging you should be playing them! SNG's are very structured you play tight and then abuse the bubble... You can adopt a very bot like style. IN MTT's you need to accumulate chips so you take flips you bluff more you get aggressive in spots you just shouldnt and can't in SNG's.

SNG's are good for a slow low variance bankroll building game...

MTTs are all about stack control, building your stacks even when you dont have hands

STTs are about playing ABC poker

So sillymunchie you do not believe in any fancy plays in a sng at all. Would that not make your game very predictable to people who frequent sngs.(regs)

In my opinion I think that MTT is much more difficult. They need to manage your bank correctly.
The SNG is a little different.

they are both difficult, but it all depends on what type of skill set you posess, some people do better with 1-5 tables over many many hours (mtt) others do better with more action 20+ tables (stt).

So it's all the same but differant, to some MTT will be harder, to others STT will be harder, it all just depends.

MTT basics

A huge difference between MTT and SNG is the prize structure. You have to shoot for final table every time you play an MTT because the final table prizes are waaayyyy more than the pre-final table cashes. Even if you cash 1/10 times whenever you play, it is better to make final table due to prize difference. SNGs you just need to slide into 3rd to turn a profit. So play low stakes MTTs with a small bankroll.

Playing MTT you should be ready to play. That is a lot of tournaments in a row, you will not get in prize zone. But then one win will return all that you have lost. You must be ready for it psychologically

In sng we have more regular players, so first you have to find out the sng that you want to play and study it.

i would not say fancy plays do not have its place in a SNG, but fancy plays at the start of the STT arent essential, if you are a regular SNG player you will abuse those that you have info on, so if you have info on player x that will call down extremely light you would take advantage of this, and if a player is purely sitting tight you can easily find out if he has the goods or not if you have position on him and take some easy pots.
Poker in general is obviously a situational game, but at the lowest stakes <$5
i would say ABC poker will net you a nice profit, after that you have to know who to play ABC poker against and who to make plays on to keep your stack healthy
