Why did you decide to play in tournaments and not in cash games?

Yesterday I played in a 2.20 tournament. I played exactly 7 hours, I took 222 places from more than 4000 players and won only 6.6$
I think that playing a cash game for example on NL2 I would have won a lot more during the same time on
But for some reason I still try to play more in tournaments, hoping to win it , although there is no certainty that this will ever happen/

Why did you decide to play in tournaments and not in cash games?

If you are playing to make money then cash games might be better for that and i understand where you are coming from. I play tournaments for the Low risk high yield reward if you win. I once won 6k off 2$ That's not possible in a cash game. You can drain your roll in cash games if you run bad. If you run bad in mtt you only lose the buy in. I just enjoy playing hands for the most part and try to win in the spirit of competition and mtts allow me to play more hands with less risk. It's a good challenge and a lot of hard decision making can sharpen the mind.

I used to be athletic and was very competitive person. Since getting injured I was unable to find anything to do with my competitiveness. When I got into poker tournaments was a natural fit for me. I gave me a chance to fight and try to win the whole thing. While we all play poker with the hopes to win money, I play to have the thrill of winning the whole thing. I can win $10.00 or $1,000.00 and still be thrilled by the winning the event more that the money. When I played cash I actually did no enjoy it as much or in the same way. While I have fun, I noticed I was missing something big. The thrill of victory.

I play tournaments since the risk/award ratio is much higher than in cash games. In tournaments with big fields you can get in for let's say 20$ and end up winning thousands in a matter of hours. Additionaly, I just like the style of play in tournaments, the tactics involved, chip leader pressure, bubble tensions, huge pay jumps in the end, it is just great thrill..

Tournaments are better for me you start with a certain amount of chips and have to survive on that sort of like trying to live on your wages which a lot of people cant do today and credit cards are sort of like rebuy tourneys, which I am not really fond of, and cash games I feel are the same as long as you have funds you will be tempted to play hands you possibly shouldnt.

You may have only won $6.60 but perhaps you also gained more experience & knowledge? And maybe you also had some fun? Also, playing 2nl you 'might've' won more in that 7hr. time frame but you wouldn't have had the remote chance of winning $900 (or whatever the top prize money was paying in that tournament).

When playing tournaments, it's much more about 'the long run' & volume. If you're a good player, you'll be winning in the long run & perhaps at a higher winrate than you could achieve when playing 2nl.

i prefer tournaments because they are more exciting. for me cash games are more ABC poker and monotonous, therefor boring if played 5+hours compared to playing a Tournament for 5 Hours and for a Deep run.

well in 7 Hours cash game you could also lose a lot more than 2.20$ while in a Tournament it's limited to your buy-in

you might have just a small sample. in the Long turn it's not About luck, it's About making good or bad decisions

In all two years that i have played poker i haven’t decided what to choose - tournaments or cash.
Tournaments are more interesting, but I don’t have enough time for them

try SNGs then. regular speed 45man take About 2 Hours, 180man ~3-4
it's also good to build your bankroll with those tournaments

I think all of them have difficulties. I prefer tournaments because I invest a smaller portion of my bankroll, and I can multiply it often with patience. I also like to play tournaments, especially those that have an advantage over the field.

on average, my winrate is 5-7 bb \ 100 on NL2 in 7 hours I can approximately play about 4-5 thousand hands.
it averages about 5-6 dollars,

In principle, unless you play around the clock - Do not expect good money when playing at a limit of NL2.

I Play both of them, but a friend of mine told me that he only played Tournaments, because he is prone to tilt.

And this is much more of a Risk in Cash Game in comparison to Tournament Poker and can be much more harmful there.

Because playing the mtts, there is a better and more realistic control of the bankroll. Also the game is more relaxed and the prospects are higher.

Cash game or tournament poker - it's like asking a man - why do you prefer blondes or brunettes. I can take the tournament 2 or 5 position and to win big money. But knowing that the tournament was played 6-8 thousand people - I like my sense of victory.

The strategy of playing tournaments and cash games is completely different. I think that to play tournaments successfully, you need to have a wider range of hands, and vice versa, to win cash games you need to choose a less wide range of hands. The difference between tournaments and cache is that blinds are constantly growing in tournaments, and they are always on the same level in the cache. Because in tournaments you need to take more risks. I love tournaments for the fact that they have an incentive to win good prizes, and there is sports excitement and interest.
