I hit a set so started to bet strongly, he called all the time. When the river came, he made a huge bet OOP where a KQ would outdrawn me, and I lost a big pot here.

Did I do anything wrong here?

Preflop
Seems fine to call here as a setmine.

Flop
I would bet bigger to get more money in the pot, before god forbid the board run out with 4 cards to a straight.

Turn
This is a great card, because he might have it, and once again I would go bigger for value.

River
I think, its a significant mistake to fold here. Yes he could have KQ, which is now a straight, and KQ would likely play like this. But he could also have aces up (AJ, AT etc.) and play it the same way thinking, he has the best hand. You need to be good 1 in 3 times, and I think, you are good more than half the time here. So this fold is a classic case of "monsters under the bed" focusing on the chance, he could have the nuts, rather than thinking logically about his entire range.
