5NL rush poker - How do you play it?

Hey! I've been playing 6max and FR same time @ rush poker. I was playing kindof TAG but a bit looser than on 2NL pstars. Very agressive, alot of cbet, it allows me to take down a profit of 25$ in 1 hour or something.

The question I am adressing you now is how do you play those tables, and is it profitable to you, if not why?

2 bad beats also in that hour. AA vs KK, flops quad lol.

top pair vs middle pair, rivers a trip.

I could never make money on it. A lot more loss than profit. Seems like when you hit a good hand, I couldn't make money off of it, because people could just fold and try another hand. The only kinda action I would get was a cooler hand. Set over set, FH over flush, etc... I was on the wrong end of it too much of the time. I am 4 tabling 5NL 6 max now, and am showing profit. Having stats and reads on people are a HUGE plus to my game.

Yeah, true, not alot of action, wich makes it so darn easy to steal so many pots for me. I cBet ALOT on rush and I get folds alot of the time. I do alot of 3barrels also. It seems that since specificaly people can fold and go to a next hand, they let go alot easier of their hands. (BTW my 3barelling comes wiht a really soft 3rd barrel, indicating a value bet, makes it easier to let go on a reraise also.) I am 22/18.

Also, I've been getting some action with the nutz sometimes, I guess you were really on the wrong end of it for the most of your time. I don't know if I am running good or crushing the game, but I definatly ain't changing a thing, 2 sessions of over 20 BB / 100.

Dont kid yourself! You are NEVER gonna be able to sustain that kind of hourly rate. Rush is very swingy and has a mix of a lot of appaulingly bad players plus a few damn good ones! (relatively)

I would liken the difficulty overall to the equivalent of 10NL full ring since play is about as tight though less aggressive but runs at a pace that can leave you feeling a little rushed when you have to make that once every ten minutes marginal decision. Its the occasional open shove with J4o and the ridiculous blind defences with ATCs that can make it profitable for the patient player who is willing to fold 90% of his hands and wait.

I have played some 35k hands in 18-19 days. I love the way I can get quickly into a couple games without having to worry about table selection and build up a good sample for my database quickly.

2.1BB per 100 is never gonna set the world on fire, but at 730 hands per hour and with rake back, $2 is an hourly rate I can be confident in fairly quickly. I have the option to play two more tables in the future and double my winrate before the 5BB per hundred hands ceiling is even close.

I believe a REAL LONG TERM $5 per hour is possible from rush before having to move up from the lowest stake level.

LOL I dont care what anyone says, I believe there is a large jump in difficulty (in making a longterm profit) when moving up from the lowest stake in any game. Be it 2NL normal poker or 5NL rush. You ask anyone who has beaten 2NL for a great 5BB how they find 5NL 30k hands after they move up. Play is NOT the same, It just that little bit tougher, just enough for the rake to cancel out most of your edge and leave you a frustrated break even player lacking confidence in your game. A string of bad beats = a day of tilt and half your BR gone. Ive been there too many times.

Here are a couple tips for Rush:
1. Steal from the CO and BTN if it's folded to you damn near every chance you get, unless you have stats showing that the blinds are aggressive in defending and you have a terrible hand.

2. To go along with #1. Restealing from the blinds can be very profitable as well. 3Betting light has worked out amazing for me. Especially if you get someone who is min raising, many times they are just checking to see if people have their Check/QuickFold box checked, so when you come over the top of them, they are folding their junk.

3. Use the Quick Fold to your advantage. You're going to make the most money with Rush the more hands you play(given that you know how to play obviously). Sitting around and watching hands play out won't help you much, use the replayer after your session to go through key hands and make notes.

4. Triple barreling light very often will not be profitable in the long run. Many of the hands you will see go to showdown will mostly be higher marginal hands that are likely to beat your junk. Also, at these stakes, 95% of the field don't know the difference between a value bet and a defensive bet, so your bet sizing on the river means nothing(ie. just look at how often you'll see someone make a 2BB bet on the river into a 25BB pot). Don't give many of the players at these stakes credit for being knowledgeable.

If thats your definition of crushing then yes, you may as do that! IMO untill you have 30-50k, or better 100k hands under your belt you cannot really say you are crushing the game.

Heres an exercize, go on to PTR and look at the monthly leader boards. Find me a sample of over 100k hands with >5BB/100 winrate. I have been playing poker now for 15 months and only in the last few weeks have I REALLY realized the scale the of uphill battle that we face because of rake!

I have evn beaten a game for >8BB/100 over 20k hands only to lose several consecutive stacks due to beats. It very humbling.

You didn't crush the game... There is no such thing as crushing the game in a whole two sessions.

I tried Rush for the first time today. I noticed peoples fold most of the time. So I make an experiment with 5 bucks, playing super agressive, 3bets anything, when it's called and board looks safe I bet again.

The result is 5 bucks turn to $11 in 15 minutes, crazy..

That won't work for very long. If you're 3Betting a lot of players that are raising from EP or even MP, a lot of the time they have big hands, otherwise they are just quick folding to the next hand. I'm not saying that it won't work at all, but in the long run you're going to run in to more big hands from those players in Rush than you would in a regular ring game.

These are my stats for 5nl rush. The game is definitely beatable. I think I just play pocket pairs unless it is a 3+way pot where i sometimes add in sc's.

Call up to 4bb preflop with 22-TT.

JJ and QQ are really tricky, and often only good for set value in rush. I 3bet these hands but snapfold to a 4bet.

Sometimes people say that you might even consider folding KK but I would never do that.

So basically just be a nit I guess.

Bear in mind I was a hugely losing player until several months ago. I took some time off and did a lot of reading. I like rush because I can get in a huge amount of hands/hour.

im never playing rush cash again even though the new promotion looks pretty cool im not going to participate. On the other hand i think Rush tourneys are profitable the reason is you can get a big advantage around the bubble and it seems like people play looser.

If you are gonna play cash game and you want to pick up the speed of poker it is way better just to multitable
