Playing 25NL on Carbon:

I have AK hearts in the CO facing a 3.5 BB raise from UTG. Fold to me, I make it 9 BB and the table folds back around to the UTG player, who calls.

Flop is Asp -8d -6sp.

UTG checks. I C-bet about 3/4 of the pot. I have top pair, think I'm best at this point but don't necessarily want to see another street, so I think of this as a raise both for value and for protection. UTG calls. At this point I have him on a range like 99 - KK, AJ, AQ.

Turn is 4h, and UTG checks to me. My remaining stack is about 57 BBs, the pot now is about 48 BBs, and I ship it to the middle. Based on my read I still think I'm good here and also think that if his range includes any air he'll drop it here.

UTG snap calls with 5-7 hearts for a straight and that's it for that buy in.

Looking at it today, I think I was crazy.

I obviously misinterpreted UTG's early position lead, thinking I was up against big cards like KK, QQ, JJ. Looking at it now, the raiser's range could also include 88 and maybe even A-8. Still don't expect the suited two-gapper in this spot but why did I assume he hadn't hit a set or 2 pair? I never gave him a chance to be aggressive, essentially playing right into hands like that. If' I had checked the turn there's a good chance he bets the river and I can make a different decision.

The only hands I beat here are A-rag, A10 - AQ, and some other pocket pairs that he probably wouldn't call my flop bet with.

I think I was doing fine, procedurally, until the turn. At that point, with a call - call, was it correct to fire the turn when that draw hit (as I did), or check and let him raise me out of the pot, or possibly call down to showdown without going all in?
