at PokerStars at 2nl?

There are a couple of regulars that I see there every day, one is 4/4 and the other is 4/1. They play a lot of hands, but PS don't offer rakeback and the rake is quite high at 2nl.

So how are they making any money?

Also there's a SS player with stats of 2/1/0 that I have 100 hands on - he just 3bet me OTB and I nearly fell off my chair! :p

@2nl... this:

A. they win from really bad players

Also, Pokerstars doesn't offer direct rakeback but they do have a VIP system. Multitable 24 tables @ 40 hours a week and even someone playing a 1/1 style will have points accumulating.

Is it fun? Absolutely not.

Can it be profitable? Probably marginally so.

There are quite a few with 100's of thousands of hands (some in the millions.. @2nl). Doubt they'd be playing 300k+ hands if they were losing.

I think that this just drives home the point that its really hard to go wrong with playing tight as your basic approach to the game. Sometimes I think we (or at least I :) ) have a tendency to make poker harder than it is.

Good starting hands

Positional awareness

Profit.

some of them talk tho (guess you can chat with a bot... at least I think it's possible. The bit I've read on them, you can keep it on bot mode but can then takeover for the bot too)

This.

I think we all do this from time to time. I have no doubt that playing a 4/4 style would easily beat 2nl, i dont even think they'd be a struggling/ very marginal winner to be honest either.

Pokerstars has teh best dection out there for bots, so I find it hard to believe it.

Besides which, why bot 2nl if your aim is to earn money via rake back playing a very tight basic ABC game? You would play something like 25nl maybe even 50nl and earn a very good amount in rakeback.

I was really half joking about them being bots.

Im mean, how do you play 4/4 and not be something close to a robot?

Im sure there are a couple bots still on PS. While they are good at detecting them they cant get them all. There are people whos hobby it is to build bots and program them. These are the ones that will get through. Its the factory made-buy off the internet bots that go down.

By playing a Bulk of hands and going fishing daily and not just going but catching some big fish too.

If there is no rakeback on PS, by saying that you mean Stellar rewards + FPPs ?

I'm just confused on that topic.... Is there rakeback on ps or not.

PS has a VIP rewards based system that replicates RB. It's more rewarding to the players that pay more in rake.

Though, they still use the Dealt MGR rather than the Contributed MGR which is why it can be profitable for people to play 24 tables and play ridic tight breakeven poker. This is something PS has to change to improve the games, imo.

interesting thread. if i played just JJ/QQ/KK/AA and AKs and raised 4xbb plus 1xbb for any limper, and played say 16 tables tiled, think Id make a profit? I could be intrested in doing this. what stats would I be playing with just those hands?

Any playing style can be profitable with good table selection skills. A good seat slightly trumps good skills IMO. You can be a horrible player and make money if your table is filled with players worse than you.

What is your fixation with 2NL short stacks?

It seems that every time I stumble on a FF thread its something to do with finding the merits of playing 2NL with a SS.

I think I've already explained the reason quite well, and don't feel inclined to explain it again for somebody who has so far failed to give me any constructive advice.

Is there really an ignore function at this forum, or was Vanquish just joking? If there is, how do I use it, please?

2NL is the easiest possible stake to play.
SS are the easiest possible stack sizes to play against.
NITS are the easiest possible player type to play.

So why anyone who is struggling to beat the easiest player type with the easiest stack size at the easiest stakes possible would want to ignore anyone offering advice is beyond me; but this is probably something to do with why you are struggling to beat the easiest player type with the easiest stack size at the easiest stakes possible.

As for not giving you constructive advice. Didn't I advise you to buyin for 100bb and drop stakes until you were both bankrolled and felt comfortable rather than buying in for around 50bb at 5 / 10NL. Not only is that advice both sound and constructive.. but isnt it something you are now doing?
