How do you play JJ?

For some reason whenever I play JJ reasonably slowly I get beat bad! :banghead: I have decided to try to just steal the blinds now. How do you play JJ...do you steal the blinds or try to play out??

Well for starters if there was no raise.. I would say raise it 2 to 3X the BB especially if you are in late position.

For some reason this hand has gotten me in so much trouble I have tried limpin in, betting as you say 2 3x BB,0 have came out firing, and have been royally shutdown now wen I get this hand and can limp in I do and maybe for a small raise I'll see flop, if no hit I fold it those are evil cards for me I don't know the hand name for that hand but I think it was something evil or bad LOL

Preflop
I will raise 3xBB+1BB/ limper.

Post flop
You got a 50/50 chance to see at least one overcard. You can fire out hard again if nothing higher comes on the flop and make the other person pay to keep playing. If you get called, then you need to try and put him on a hand (2 overcards, a set, top pair, etc.). You then play accordingly, fold if you think you are beat or fire out again at the turn.

When an over card comes you need to find out if it helped them out. I tend to assume an A did help them. If a K/Q hits, I will bet anywhere from half to the a full pot size bet to see where I am at. If you get reraised or called, then you need to put on the brakes and decide to dump or call.

Overall
You tend to win big or lose big with high pocket pairs. High pair are hard to let go. That is just how I look at them overall. Don't feel bad if they get beat several times in a row, it just happens that way in poker some times.

Play them according to your chip stack, as well. With a big stack, you can put out more feelers, and make a drawing hand pay more to play. Also depends on the table. If it is a very loose table, sometimes you won't know til the end where you stand. But overall, put a bet out there and see if there are any re-raises. It doesn't normally bother me if there is just a call, even with an overcard...usually that means a bad kicker, and you can sometimes bet them off of that if they are a passive player. I normally come in with a raise with JJ, seems if I limp in, I get beat more often by someone catching a card or two.

I play JJ pretty hard. I raise big preflop. If the flop does not have scare cards I keep betting. Basically, I keep betting as long as I think I'm ahead. I tried limping in with JJ and that did not work as well for me. If I am at very aggressive table were people are making big preflop raises with hands like Ax suited and medium pairs I may re-raise. I also don't mind moving all-in if I think I can get a call from a maniac playing any two suited or Ax.

Sooooooo much depends on table position, chip stack, number of players at table.

JJ is a nice starting hand but you gotta be worried with an overcard, particulaly with more than player in. My advice with a full table, small blinds, early position......Make a minimum 6 x BB raise, push out the limpers, if you get a caller and more than 1 overcard comes then dont be afraid to lay down your hand. No overcards make a MINIMUM pot size bet, maybe more, depends if any draws develop from the flop

Late tourney, with a medium/low stack then you gotta think about an all-in move

Bet as much as you think will push out all but 1 or maybe 2 other players. If 3 or more other players call and a Q K or A comes up, you might as well be holding 2 7. If you raise enough to be heads up after the flop, and one or even two of those three (Q, K or A) come up, bet to see where the other player stands. They will usually fold. If they call, they are almost always either on a draw or they have made their top pair and you can play accordingly.

JJ is a strogn hand and should be played accordingly. In late position preflop; bet the pot or more, generally in late position there will be enough in the pot that if you take it down there you did well enough. The main goal with big pairs is to get heads up, so when you have JJ ask yourself what will get some money iin the Pot and get me headsup. GENERALLY speaking; unless you are hammered preflop you will have the best hand on the flop, the only so called scare card you generally need to worry about is an ace; simply because so many players outright refuse to dump any ace preflop!

I love JJ. I find a good system for me is to put in a raise 3 or 4 times the BB and then see where you stand after the flop. Hopefully you will have pushed out all but 1 or 2 players and then it is much easier to get a handle on where you stand. Of course its a decent hand but an extra special reason to like it is that its not that hard to get away from. We've all been guilty of not putting hands down(especially AA KK etc.) even when we know there's a good chance we're in trouble. This is far less likely to happen with JJ.

I'd basically play it like any other top 10 starting pre-flop hand. Bet 3-4 or even 5X the BB. If I get called or raised I try to put my oppenent as well on a top 10 hand. When the flop comes always act like it hits me and bet. This bet gives me info on what hand my oppenent does have even possibly take the pot down right then and there. Because some people will call the pre-flop raise with weak hands or/even rags.

How I play JJ

The same way I play 10 10.

If the table is full and more than 2 people are in I just call the preflop bet. If the table is pretty empty I'll raise it up.

I lose with JJ more than 70% of the time at a freeroll. If it's a money game I loses more than 50% of the time.

Gotta change the play depending on the situation, as with any pair.

With JJ i bet 5BB or more (even UTG) preflop, i hope that other will fold (JJ is a dangerous hand).
After the flop i always bet 3/4 of the pot even if there's an overcard on the flop (if the flop isn't good for me, it's maybe not good for my opponents).
But i'm ready to fold if someone reraise. I think slowpay that kind of hand is a mistake, bet a lot of money preflop should fold Ax or Kx who will see the flop if it's cheap.
