Trapping in poker- Cash or tournaments

so how does everyone feel about trapping in poker. For me I feel like I get screwed more than rewarded.
And I feel I lose more money than I do profiting.

And I don't mean like slow paying the nuts but rather limping AA,KK,AK
Let me know your thoughts

On a table that continuously keeps raising I think limping Aces or Kings from UTG or UTG1 is always a good decision.

1. Opponents cannot put you on Aces or Kings with a re-raise from UTG
2. In the event they do call your limp UTG re-raise with Aces your getting paid much more.
3. When you raise let's say to 10 or 20 on a 1-2 you may only get 1 caller or everyone folds and half the time they may fold to your bet on the flop or turn.
4. I think there are many good reasons to limp with Aces or Kings, but it truly does come down to table action and understanding the other players. Certain scenarios basically.

Now if you do choose to limp aces and only get called by let's say 3 players. You basically are only going to be good there about 50-60% of the time. So it's risky but if your post flop game is solid then you'll know how to fold on certain board textures and player type.

I usually nearly always limp aces from UTG. As well as Kings.

Mix it up to keep regular opponents guessing.

More likely to limp a good hand when short-stacked in a tourney against 'isolaters', than when deep-stacked, where you are usually better off starting off with a raise to help get your stack in later.

You'll remember the times your slowplay cost you the pot more than the times you won extra from playing deceptively because 'bad beats' can be painful in the moment.

I agree with some of the things said before me, like keeping your opponents guessing and maybe limping with an aggressive player behind you. That being said, if there is a chance of the pot going multiway, I would prefer a raise with big hands to isolate, narrow opponents range, and charge drawing hands the maximum. Due to the multiway nature of low stakes cash games I almost always prefer a raise unless someone is getting out of line you can exploit.

In tournys it really depends on blinds, antes, ect.. The deeper in the tourny you are the more important it is to defend your equity, even if you only take down blinds and antes.

I would leave trapping to the cash tables and only use it in specific situations to exploit aggressive players, when used well it can be great! Good luck!

It's a tricky 1 I made a thread about this 2 weeks ago. The last two times I slow played I got beat but 1 of i them i was in the SB and every 1 foldest round to me so I flat called to try get some extra action from the bb he had 25 and got a straight on the river. But now I think that getting the blinds and antes would of been a lot better than loosing half my stack

A trap can be made only when you flop a monster on the flop that 95% you re a winner Ptherwise you should always raise and dont let your oplonents get any free cards

Only on rare situations you can just limp a premium hand You have to open a raise with them because with only a limp a lot of players join the flop and your premium hand can be busted

Problem with trapping with AA, KK, AK (I would add QQ) is that players tend to trap on all streets, thinking their opponents are value betting with TP or bluffing on all streets which doesn't happen often. That being said, it is important to realize when to re-raise them with limped premiums, or even fold if the board is really bad for you. I would suggest, If you want to trap people, do that with hands like small pocket pairs that have hit a set on the flop. It is risky to trap with premiums once you see the flop, considering that you only have one pair, and it is easy for your opponent to catch outs to the river.

IMO mixing in a trap in your game is very good(tough only a small percentage of the time),probly more often against more agressive/better hand reader oponents..Generally too much traping is bad..

i think limping a-a thru q-q including a-k is a mistake your allowing villian to see cheap flop,plus your losing value,i think a small bet is better than limping pre-flop-a smallish bet disguises your hand some
