Many beginner players enter casinos without much thought about how to manage their bankroll (the reserve of chips/money for playing). Some believe that luck is enough, while others argue that discipline and clear limits are fundamental to avoid large losses.

I'd like to hear the community's opinion:

Do you set loss and win limits before playing?

Do you think bankroll management really increases the chances of coming out positive in the long run?

Or do you believe that, in the end, it all comes down to luck?

Share your experiences and strategies — it can be very helpful for those who are starting out!

I think you should think of it like budgeting to go to dinner and a movie, as entertainment.

You should not have any expectation of winning in games where the house has the edge.

The longer you play in games where the house has an edge the greater your chance of leaving a loser.

What a question.

All geambling activities online or live in a casino have one base foundation.

This is the bnankroll. You should only go to the casino or play online casino poker with money that does not hurt your daily live.

The money in casino games is always at high risk because of the house advantage.

So no money that you can´t afford to lose should go into the bankroll for a casino visit or poker tournaments (live or online).

Stop loss rules are also best practice if you play casino games or poker.

Bankroll management won’t turn a negative EV game into a winning one. With discipline you may stay in the game long enough until luck runs your way. Good luck!

Like the old saying goes - Las Vegas wasn't built on 99 cent shrimp cocktails and $3 steak dinners (although those days are long gone).

The house always has an edge in the games or they wouldn't host them in the first place, you need to have the discipline to set a stop-loss and stop when you hit it, instead of going deeper and deeper in the hole to try and win that money back.

It takes discipline, but it is also true that once you win a larger amount, the room tempts you and you try to reach the same emotional level again (you want to win again).
That is why I don't play in casinos, only when I win money, say because of free spins.
You have to know how to handle the casino properly and not expect it to save your life, because only very few people succeed in that. They base their illusion on this, that you see, they succeeded too, why shouldn't you?

The most part of the casino is discipline.
Let me tell why ?
With discipline you cant avoid many situations where you can losse everything.

I go for discipline.

Thanks.

Try to look at a casino visit the same way you’d look at going to the movies—it’s entertainment. If you walk out with a win, great! But treat that as a bonus, not something you aim for every time.

I'm a recreational casino player(I go like 10-15 times per year) and I like the live experience(I have a few nice casinos close by), so I'm doing it mostly for fun without any advanced strategies for any of the games I plan to play(though I did learn a lot about blackjack, slots and roulette thanks to CardsChat- some really good threads in the casino section (y)); I do pay attention a lot to bankroll management, mostly because of poker and I apply it for Casino and Sports betting too- especially for Casino sessions I set both a loss and win limit and it worked pretty well in my case over the years- small sample size though and I do believe that if you are a recreational player this luck factor plays a big roll in your results, but IMO bankroll management, knowledge about the games you play, discipline etc. improve your chances to win especially in the long run...

Without bankroll management, your casino game essentially boils down to luck alone. But by sticking to bankroll management, you will at least be able to play calmly, without wasting your nerves, and you will feel emotionally stable, which, in my opinion, is very important.

Are you talking about playing poker at the casino, or other casino games/slots?

With poker, I think it's quite simple:
Tournaments - you just need your buy-in and rebuy
Cash - allow for up to 5 buy-ins

Do not take more than you need, because if you bust, the temptation to go play blackjack or slots or whatever might be too much.

If you're going to play casino games, you don't have a bankroll. You have a budget. A bankroll is something you manage with risk and reward. Good sensible BRM means you mitigate against risk by only ever putting a small part of your roll down at any one time. Theoretically, you lose small and win big. But playing casino games, you're destined to lose in the long run as so it doesn't mate how strict your BRM is, you will eventually lose it all.

When you enter the world of poker and live casino, the first thing you need to do is have discipline and good bankroll management; that way you will start to grow in this game.

In my opinion, setting a limit on gambling should be a mandatory priority. When I go to a casino, I always have a clear understanding of how much I am willing to spend. The main thing is not to spend more than planned. In addition, I also have a clear “take profit” rule: if I make +100% on the amount I planned to spend, it's a signal that the game is over for today.
