Big casinos average around 70–77 dB of noise — about the same as heavy traffic. With live music or shows, levels can exceed 85 dB, which is the threshold where long exposure starts damaging hearing according to WHO and OSHA.

So, is casino noise part of the fun, or is it too much? Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the sound, or had a funny/strange experience because of it?

Casino noise is designed to increase spending, and it provably works. They won't change unless forced to do so; we are being nudged into poverty as owners drink champagne out of showgirls' bottoms. Truth.

We've all been to concerts, ball games, fairgrounds and so on. Casino noise is no worse than any of those, the important is that we don't spend days and days in those environments. A few hours and we're out of there.

When I play online casino games, I turn off the sound because it starts to annoy me. In a live casino (although when I’m there live I am mostly in the poker room we there is no loud machine sound effects) I might even put in ear plugs. I do that at most concerts too. Gotta protect your ears!

Continuous noise might affect more on person's stress levels than harm hearing  I wouldn't want to spend time at a place where noise makes it harder to concentrate.

I agree @Tero I would not like that either.

Some casinos are big enough that the only noise you can hear is people talking and some laughter. Overall, I think that if you want to go to a casino. Then you have to expect a certain amount of noise.

In Vegas, the casinos are large and you would think quite busy and crowded, which they are, however, the casinos are not overly loud.

I almost never paid attention to the noise in the casino, as I was almost always completely focused on my own entertainment programme :)
Little things like noise definitely can't get in my way when I see my favourite slots or card tables :)

Interesting topic. I think casino noise is a bit of a double-edged sword.

On one hand, the sounds are definitely part of the atmosphere—slot jingles, chips clacking, people cheering after a win. That energy can make the place feel alive and exciting, especially if you’re there more for entertainment than grinding seriously.

On the other hand, after a few hours it can become mentally exhausting. Constant noise makes it harder to concentrate, and I’ve noticed it can subtly push you to play faster or stay longer than planned. From that perspective, it’s easy to believe it’s intentionally designed to keep people engaged and spending.

Personally, I enjoy the noise in short sessions, but if I’m playing poker or trying to stay focused, I prefer quieter rooms or taking regular breaks. Protecting your focus (and hearing) is more important than the vibe once the novelty wears off

I remember it used to be a lot worse with ringing bells from the slot machines everywhere, back in the 90's and early 2000's. They seemed to have softened the tones and focus more now on mesmerizing graphics and total brain control. How far we've come.

Casinos are designed to be noisy & it is intentional. Upbeat music pumped through speakers to keep things lively. During the prime hours in the casino, it gets really noisy from dealers calling bets & results to players & crowds cheering, talking, laughing, some shouting. The machines playing jingles, spinning reels, beeps & buzzes all around that is suppose to create excitement & urgency.

Fortunately, in the poker area, it is relatively calm lest chips clacking together & the occasional player chatters. Nice place to gamble. :)

In my opinion, hearing protection should be used everywhere. When I played online, I turned off the sound, but in live casinos, headphones might help! Good luck to you!

Definitely found it more noisy in Vegas. A little less in Canadian casinos and absolutely almost silent in Belize. I like any of them. I can ignore the noise either way. I do like Belize, it's very chill.

If those casino noises are not very loud then i have no problem with them. They are part of the experience in my opinion and that's it.

I rarely go to casinos, and the noise can be unusual and unpleasant for me. But if I focus on the game, I think the noise will fade into the background. The main thing is to stay focused.

Noise drives me crazy. I don't like places like that and rarely go to noisy casinos. I know a few casinos that, on the contrary, have a very pleasant and cozy atmosphere, no noise, nice lighting, and professional staff. Maybe there are players for whom noise is normal, but not for me.

Noise will scare customers away. Quiet, calm music, such as jazz, will attract customers. Casinos that are noisy will gradually lose revenue and eventually disappear. The atmosphere in a casino is extremely important, and those who value their business will always pay close attention to this factor.

Definetly also fun. Everyone expect noises from slot machines, live gameshows and chip clacking

The noise doesn't bother me at all. If I have money to play, I don't care about the noise or anything else :)

Noise, loud music, and people shouting all annoy and distract me. I would never choose to be in such places. And I certainly wouldn't spend my money there.
