Do you dress up when you go to the casino, or is it just another night out?

I’ve noticed some people still make an effort — shirts, jackets, smart shoes — while others turn up in hoodies and trainers like they’re popping to the shop.

Personally, it feels like casinos used to have more of a “dress for the occasion” vibe, but maybe that’s changed.

So I’m curious:
Do you dress differently for a casino than you would anywhere else?
Does it depend on cash vs poker, time of day, or the venue?
Ever been turned away (or felt out of place) because of what you were wearing?

Interested to hear what people think — especially how it compares across different casinos and countries.

I have never been to one, I would ask the person I was going with what they thought :) and then dress accordingly ;) BUT if I was with my chicklettes, I am sure one or two of us would have heels on :p

It's about being comfortable.
I usually wear shorts and a t-shirt, with a regular shirt unbuttoned so my big belly can see what's going on with a pair of crocs on my feet.
May or may not have on a ball cap depending.

Now that Debi has seen fit to send me a prize box with a hoodie in it, I will sub it for the shirt.

Redneck fashion statement.

It just depends on who I am with and what casino we are going to.

I dress for comfort - doesn't matter if it is poker, slots or blackjack - or even seeing a show. No interest in dressing up for a casino trip.

I grew up during a time when people dressed up to go to church or someplace on Saturday night. I usually dress in a conservative and traditional manner, which would be casual skirts, tops, and sometimes nice jeans. However if it were something like New Year's Eve or I was going to a nice restaurant before the casino I'd be wearing a nice dress and probably two inch heels.

Me personally I definitely dress up. Suddenly I look like James Bond with a nice and very expensive suit.

Jokes aside, i basically only play Casinos online so no reason to dress up. I actually dress down playing in my underwear.

Have you been to Belize? We dont dress up for much. Have to be a pretty swanky party for that, which generally happens maybe once a year. I moved here for a reason, so I could wear shorts and a tank top daily...no thinking about what to wear. Just makes life a whole lot simpler.

I don't see why going to a casino should influence the way I dress.
Unless I had to go right after a certain occasion (Family function, meeting etc), I would always stick to my usual comfy attire.

I wouldn't dress up at all, as long as what I'm wearing doesn't make me look homeless (and I have a lot of work clothes that do) so casino security doesn't start having ideas. I'm not there to give a sales presentation so who cares?

I dress casually, prioritizing comfort. After all, if all goes well, I'll be there for hours.

I always wear what is comfortable. If, for example, casinos did not allow entry without a jacket, I would probably never have started gambling. In my opinion, ordinary everyday clothes are suitable for casinos and everything else, the main thing is that you feel comfortable.

If I am going to a local casino to play some poker while my wife is hosting her canasta group, I am usually in shorts or sweats and a t-shirt…if I am staying at the Wynn, I might dress casual during the day, but I wear at least dress pants and long sleeve dress shirt after dinner.

If I remember the time of day correctly, when it all first started in Atlantic City after 4pm gentlemen were required to wear sport jackets and trousers while women needed to be dressed conservatively. Four was the cutoff for beach wear. :)

There is no formal dress code on the casino but should still pay attention to what you wear because there is still attire that is unacceptable. It would be uncomfortable to be called aside or perhaps turned away. My outfit is same anywhere. Night or day, cash or tourney, blackjack or craps. I don't see any players dressed formally in the casino lest the staff. Even the rich are dressed casually, to blend in I suppose.

My local casino is pretty relaxed when it comes to dress code, but there are still some rules. They ask you to avoid neglected or sloppy clothing, short pants, flip-flops, sport sandals, running shoes, swimwear, sportswear, and track pants. So even though you don’t need to suit up, it’s a good idea to dress neatly—long trousers and casual shoes work perfectly.

I do if im having dinner there or out with a lady - also if theres a band on, its good to make an effort sometimes - if its a boys night then boots and jeans and denim shirt works well with my black stetson 🤣🤣🤣

I think a medium dress code would be nice. But the difference in dress depends on the context of who goes. Some consider it a special occasion, so they dress more elegantly; those who go before a planned outing will also be well-dressed; and for others, it's just a quick stop.

I usually go to the Casino on my birthday. So first dining and then the Casino.
I usually go with my daughter and do dress up a little, cuz it's in the summer.

I dress as usual. Casino, work, or going to the shop. I wear what is comfortable and what I like. For me, a casino is no different from a bakery or a petrol station :)

I’m definitely more in the “comfortable but presentable” camp. I don’t really dress up specifically for a casino, but I also wouldn’t show up looking like I just rolled out of bed. Clean jeans, trainers, and a decent top usually do the job.

I think it depends a lot on the venue and time of day. Poker rooms especially seem much more casual now than they used to be, while higher-end casinos or evening sessions still lean a bit smarter. Cash vs poker doesn’t change much for me, but a nicer room might.

I’ve never been turned away, though I have felt slightly underdressed once or twice in fancier places — nothing uncomfortable, just noticeable. Overall, the old “dress for the occasion” vibe has relaxed a lot, especially compared to years ago.

That would be an excellent Halloween idea for a couple. James Bond and Sylvia Trench. :)
