Yeah tomorrow I'm going in for a job interview for an aprentice croupier position at my local casino (I don't mention names because I'm paranoid :p).

I'm pretty prepared, but anxious of course. Anyway I'm going to try and not think about getting the job or not, just do a good interview. It's actually more of a 'recruiting session' they call it, because there will also be linguistic tests and I don't know what else. They said 'testing'.

If I succeed I'll be attending a 6 week training course starting from the end of september.

If you have any last minute tips please don't refrain from posting :)

Wish me strenght!

I'm not great at telling stories but I'll try to tell you how it went now.

First they gave us a brief presentation about the company, the main HQ, the job of croupier, that kind of stuff.

Then they let us take a test of mental arithmetic (on paper), concentration (actually more math and logic) and a short motivation.

The first two went very well but then they rang the bell(yeah that's metaphorically) and I hadn't even started the motivation. Lol it was fifteen minutes total and they didn't give us any warning at all as to how much time went by. Luckily they gave us another 2 minutes to finish up. I didn't get to finish it though(it was supposed to be 6 phrases, I finished 3).

But I have an impression it's not the end of the world.

Later we did the interview(it was 1 on 1), I think that went pretty well. I was polite and gave quick decisive answers.

TBH I'd be surprised if I didn't get to participate in the training course(yeah you have to go trough one, unpaid then you'd get the job), but I don't know much about it since this is my first job interview after all.

Anyway they're very friendly over there I'd be glad to take up working at the casino.

As for my chances relative to their demands, I think I fall within their range. There were less applicants than they expected and I know(unfortunately for him) that one of them won't be a croupier(he has a colour vision problem and thus failed the colour blindness test).

In short, they said to us that if we were accepted we'd get a phonecall next week, if we weren't we would get something trough the mail. So all things said nothing's for sure.

Anyway I'm a little more relieved and the adrenaline rush is starting to die down. :)

So my suspicion that my chances were relatively high of getting accepted were not unfounded.

I got a call from them this afternoon telling me I could come in later this month for the training course.
It kind of surprised me because I was anticipating another few days of torturing myself with uncertainty, but they were quick in making their decision and all is well with the world :D

The rest is up to me now, since they said this will be an intensive training course. I've got quite a few days to mentally prepare for it, but I'll make sure I'm fully revved up.

Oh btw: YAY!!! I F*CK8NG GOT IN!!!1111 lol

Congratulations! I'm looking forward to hearing about your sessions--I've always been fascinated by and curious about how table games personnel were trained.

What country are you in? I ask because in the US the term "croupier" usually refers to staffing the craps table, but throughout the world the word is synonymous with dealer.

I don't know about the terminoglogy in the US, but here (in Belgium), croupier and dealer often have the same meaning. Unofficially though, a dealer, often means a poker dealer and croupier means someone who deals at traditional table games.
In Europe casinos often don't have craps tables. It's a shame though, because it seems like a very fun game to deal. Anyway I'll have my hands full with roulette and blackjack, I'm already grateful for that. And there's the possibility of learning poker and other games later on.
