Recently, billionaire Matthew Prince, submitted a post on 'X' stating that the weight-loss drug Ozempic has impacted the state of business in Las Vegas. The general idea behind his accusation is based on Ozempic's behavioral effects which may impact overeating, drinking and gambling - the main source of income for Las Vegas casinos and gaming rooms.

Thoughts?

Far more details are in the link below from Casino.org. (quick read)

Well, where to start on this.....

Firstly, I'm not sure about these weight loss drugs in of themselves. I think there are likely to be major issues further down the line.

However if an impact is that people are not doing things to excessive levels such as eating and drinking, and eating all the crappy, non food, snacky items that us in the western world stuff down our faces at alarming rates, then I can't say its a negative on that point!!

Of course a billionaire thinks thats bad, they rely on the status quo of overconsumtion and capitalism to keep growing their wealth!

If there's one group of people to never listen to in life, its Billionaires!

Lol!... ozempic?, it couldn't be that travel is down and people are scared away from traveling locally or coming to the US,

couldn't be that prices of everything are up and still going up... couldn't be that Las Vegas prices are rising too,

...nope couldn't be any of those reasons... must be the ozempic, .....ok👍

What's in it for him? Does he have a stake in some Vegas venture or simply a bone to pick with big pharma?

I don't know about this guy's theory! There are so many probable impacting factors that need to be considered way before "Ozempic" IMO. Donald Trump is one of them :ROFLMAO:.

But seriously, if the following statistics are true, and "Ozempic" is only one of GLP-1 drugs:

"According to a September 2025 KFF Health Tracking Poll, 12% of US adults have used a GLP-1 drug, with 6% currently taking one"

Can't we ask how many people of that 6% take "Ozempic"? And how many of those go to Vegas to begin with?
Definitely not an enough significant number to impact the whole Vegas, I think.

It even sounds like some business competition quibble.

There is no rule stating that billionaires have to have to be intelligent

I had a problem with non-diabetics taking Ozempic to begin with, as the huge demand for it as a weight loss drug prevented some diabetics from getting life saving treatment. That may not be as big an issue today, since I am sure production has quintupled to meet the demands of our overweight North American society. But a billionaire complaining that there are fewer morbidly obese people is the height of nonsense. There are unfortunately people in very high places that have more money than brains...(eg: certain car manufacturers and supreme heads of state).

I'm doubtful Ozempic has a lot to do with it. For me, Vegas, and the US in general, came off my go-to list due to Donald Trump. It will go back on when/if he leaves office ... maybe.

I think there are other factors related to this and not just the medication.
Public awareness of healthy eating;
Awareness of playing in a balanced way (and online gaming has gained a lot of space);
External factors in general, such as political, social, and economic. Anyway, I'm not sure about the medication.

I think resort fees are keeping more players away than diet pills! That, and the high restaurant prices... $100 for Caesars buffet?

Remember when Vegas was known for cheap buffets, free drinks and fairly priced rooms?

Weight loss drugs don't impact your behavior - they impact your appetite lol. (speaking from experience)
