In relationships where one partner gambles, there’s often a big unspoken issue lurking. Is it about finances, honesty, or the future? What do you think couples dodge the most?

For me, my “casino” is just online, except for that two visits I had in the past, and more of a hobby — I don’t touch my salary or passive income, so no problem there. How about you guys, what’s your story? 🎲

There is always the fear that the person gambling is going to gamble away all of their money and get into a financial crisis, pulling their partner in there with them either directly or indirectly.

I had many partners throughout my life, including 2 wives.

Except one (2nd wife), I noticed that they all hated my guitar, my books and the time I spend playing poker, sometimes openly and sometimes "undercover" ;).

Though I never threatened our financial stability, the insinuations and the overstatements were there. So, if I say that we've dodged anything, I'd be lying.

The question kind of supposes that gambling is a bad thing. In our discussions here at Cardschat about gambling I've noticed that many posts are not particularly supportive of gambling. I wonder if we're not hearing from many of the true gamblers or if there just aren't that many. It also raises the question of why a non-gambler would marry/partner with a gambler in the first place if gambling is inherently a bad thing, or at least something that we kind of agree may get in the way of a union between two people? I guess love is blind.

"Finances, honesty, or the future?" - they all go hand in hand, so my vote is for all three.

That's quite a revelation, Sami. ;)

Just as long as family finances is not in trouble, everything should be good. 🫰

I agree with you 💯. At the end of the day, money really plays the biggest role in whether a family’s future feels secure or ends up on the edge. 💸👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Not everyone would agree on that unfortunately. Especially women I would say. The ones who don't play poker I should add ;):ROFLMAO:.
