Very modest warehouse conceals a luxury business.
There are two manufacturers that have succeeded establishing de facto status for themselves in the world of roulette wheels - Cammegh and John Huxley.
Their designs have effectively become the practical standard, even though there’s no single regulatory document.
In the US many former manufactures no longer make roulette wheels - Rude, Tramble, Benteler, etc. have ended their production. Then again UK has had the longest time to refine their products to excellency.
Roots go back
Although france invented roulette, London’s Mayfair casinos (from the 1950s onward) were among the first regulated luxury gaming venues outside Monte Carlo.
These venues demanded top-quality equipment, spurring British firms to specialize in casino furniture, layouts, and wheels.
In the 19th and 20th century Britain had already mastered the precision machining which was made know with products like Rolls Royce.
Roulette wheels, which require micrometer-level balance and smooth bearings, fall into exactly that kind of craftsmanship.
John Huxley (later TCS John Huxley) began as a supplier of traditional casino furniture and layouts in the 1960s, right after the UK gambling Act 1968 legalized and structured casino operations.
The act effectively created a regulated domestic market that needed certified, fair, and durable equipment.
That gave British firms a “sandbox” to refine their products under government oversight.
Cammegh, founded in the early 1980s in Kent, took this further by introducing precision-balanced rotors and eventually the first sealed-bearing wheels with digital monitoring — decades before similar technology became standard elsewhere.
Many continental European manufacturers (especially from France and germany) either moved into other product lines or were smaller family firms without large export capacity.
Over time, the UK companies merged, modernized, and exported, while others stayed regional.
UK roulette wheels can be found in casinos like MGM Grand Las Vegas.
