Jazz as a tool for creating a calm environment conducive to gaming, its association with luxury and a successful life, and, as stated in the article: “jazz is style, emotion, and prestige.”
Ironically, the roots of jazz are deeply connected to African history and the work music of enslaved people.”

I read this interesting article about jazz music in casinos:
https://musconv.com/why-do-casinos-play-jazz/

Excerpts from a film shot at a Dutch casino, 1934:

Casino Jazz Night 1934

Yorkton's All That Jazz Big Band performance at the Painted Hand Casino's Show Lounge:

How jazz, blues, and casinos are connected
Another very interesting article, now including the Blues:

In my opinion, jazz is music that calms you down and makes you feel comfortable even in unfamiliar surroundings. That's probably why casino owners preferred jazz, so that customers would feel comfortable and at ease and leave more of their money behind :)

If there's a live Jazz band in a casino then I would watch them and forget to gamble...

Yes, so-called “smooth jazz” is perfect for that! Good luck to you!

What a great topic Diva.
Those two genres, especially jazz, play indeed a very effective role in retaining a gambler to his seat.
I loved that brief history of the relation between gambling and Jazz/Blues in the last article .
Thank you for sharing such an interesting information.

Thank you, Sami!
I started paying close attention to the music in casino scenes in movies, and jazz was always there, as was sometimes "Brazilian Bossa Nova", bringing elegance and sophistication to the atmosphere! Good luck to you!

And the same beat that's repeated, especially in online casinos gets you so comfortable, almost in a hypnotized state, and you just keep repeating the same actions, bet and bet and bet..................

Jazz helps focus. At least that's what AI says :)
Personally, music only distracts me. I would prefer sounds from nature, for example. Although I guess jazz is a more desirable option for most players :)

Jazz is improvisational music. Playing at a casino is somewhat similar to jazz because most players at a casino are simply improvising. In addition, studies have shown that casinos where jazz is played attract more customers and have higher profits.

Yes, as mentioned in the post, jazz, or more specifically smooth jazz, provides a good atmosphere for casinos and many other human activities! Good luck to you!

Jazz and casinos make me think of gangsters, old, beautiful, powerful American cars, smoky gambling halls, whiskey, and elegant women :)

There are a lot of reasons they play music like Jazz.

1. Its non offensive(no swearing, violence, etc)
2. They want to create a luxury vibe
3. Its generally relaxing
4. The smooth flow helps distort time ie you wont remember that you have heard 5 songs

My best guess is that it creates a high-class feel, a gentle trance effect may loosen you up a bit to spend more and not feel so bad about it.

Casinos, jazz, whisky and cigars :)
But that's a picture from the past. All that is no longer the case, and modern casinos are not like that anymore. Although I must admit that jazz and casinos are intertwined.

I think jazz fits casinos almost perfectly — and not by accident.

First, jazz creates a relaxed but sophisticated atmosphere. Casinos want players to feel comfortable, unhurried, and slightly immersed in a “luxury” environment. Jazz, especially smooth or lounge-style jazz, has a steady rhythm that keeps the mood calm without being distracting. It’s energetic enough to maintain excitement, but soft enough not to overwhelm concentration during games.

Second, jazz is strongly associated with class, elegance, and nightlife culture. Historically, jazz grew alongside early 20th-century gambling halls, clubs, and hotels. Over time, it became linked to images of stylish casinos, well-dressed players, cocktails, and high-stakes tables. Even today, that association remains powerful — jazz subtly reinforces the idea of prestige and exclusivity.

There’s also a psychological element. Fast, aggressive music might make players tense or impulsive. Very slow music could reduce engagement. Jazz often sits in the middle — rhythmic but smooth — helping maintain a steady emotional state. And in gambling environments, emotional balance can keep players seated longer.

It’s interesting, as you mentioned, that jazz has deep historical roots connected to African American culture and work songs, yet it became a symbol of luxury and high society. That contrast shows how music evolves and takes on new meanings in different settings.

Jazz is a good background music in a casino to create a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. The soothing melodies and rhythmic patterns of jazz can help players feel at ease, reducing stress and anxiety often associated with gambling. When players are more relaxed, they are likely to stay longer and potentially spend more money. This music could encourage players to stay engaged without feeling rushed.

Jazz is a kind of music for relaxation. Casinos are establishments where people primarily come to relax and have fun. So there is nothing surprising about this combination :)

There are many schools of jazz. For example, Be Bop, Hard Bop, Serial Jazz, Contemporary Jazz, Free Jazz, Smooth Jazz or Cool Jazz, Jazz Fusion, Swing, etc. Among them, I believe that the softer ones will be preferred as background music for a casino environment. Good luck to you!
