It is very difficult to compare players from different poker eras because the game evolves constantly as well as the number and type of players. Also what criteria you will use to compare the players' achievements from different eras? Are 1000$ won in 1970 with the same value like 1000$ from year 2000 or 2020? Can you compare the value of wsop bracelet won with field of 100 players to one won with field of 8000 players? That's why there is poker hall of fame. Everybody in it was great player for the era when he played. There is no need to compare them directly and there is no 100% accurate way to do it.

Hard to compare between different eras just like with professional sports. Games evolve and what was once thought impossible in one era becomes normal in the next.

That said, I personally think Daniel Negraneau is the best. Although Phil Helmuth is probably the most entertaining to watch.

Ferguson is also very good Heads up and many of the "new" guys from EPT not related to the golden era (Kanit, McDonald, Mercier).

I agree with you completely. I have seen Hellmuth play heads up and he is pretty impressive. Chris Ferguson is outstanding in my opinion as well.
