Yes, that's the general consensus, but tournaments can also be highly profitable. More chance to win huge and also an optimal setting for applying advantages like ICM pressure which cash games don't really offer. It's a different skillset, but both are good. The "problem" is that tournaments are less consistent than cash games (as mentioned) and so this variance means tournament players will often need to play cash games as well to keep their bankroll afloat.

Overall, I like tournaments and find them more profitable. But I also play cash games, and cash games can also be profitable. It all depends on the choices we make and where we decide to focus our efforts.
