One thing I’ve learned from playing poker is that patience is more valuable than aggression when it’s not controlled.
A lot of players feel the need to constantly be in action, especially after a few losing hands. That’s where mistakes begin. Chasing losses, forcing bluffs, or playing weak hands just to “stay active” usually leads to bigger losses.
Good poker isn’t about playing more hands — it’s about playing the right hands at the right time.
Sometimes the best move is to fold 10, 15, even 20 hands in a row. It might feel boring, but that discipline is what separates winning players from losing ones.
Wait for strong spots. Observe your opponents. Stay calm under pressure.
In the long run, patience isn’t passive — it’s powerful.

In poker you sometimes need to be mentally strong. Occasionally you might not get dealt any playable hands. And you have to sit there and fold for several hours and wait for a good spot. And that can be very boring and very tilting and you just have to continue to be disciplined. In moments like that I try to keep my attention focused on other players hands, the way they played them, the size of their bets, if they have any tells. Just so that I don't get bored and bluff or done bet my chips away.

Yes, that's right! Good point, the betting strategy changes when you become a short stack. But that's it, that's the way to go.

I completely agree, it’s a marathon not a sprint. In golf they have a saying that you cannot win the tournament on the first day but you can lose it.

The most costly mistake is not losing a hand… but losing emotional control after losing it.

When you have 20 blinds left!! Often people go with pocket or medium cards!! Does this justify such actions?

I think this is more about stack size than lack of patience.
Around 20 BB, the game becomes much more push/fold oriented, so it’s completely standard to go all-in with medium pairs (like 66–99) or even wider ranges, especially from late position.

It’s not necessarily a mistake it’s adaptation.
The key is to make decisions based on position, opponents, and situation, not tilt or boredom.

Patience waiting for strong spots then get blinded out.
Fold 10, 15, even 20 hands in a row then get a bad beat when you finally play.
Sounds familiar? You think you got it all figured out until you don't.
There is not a single formula. What's certain is that when one gets lucky, one wins.

Well said. It’s not about being passive, it’s about picking your spots. I play less hands now than before and somehow win more… funny how that works.

Patience is actually a great advantage over aggressiveness, to hold out until there is a good opportunity to bet.
