This is just a post to highlight how unglamorous playing poker for money can be, or perhaps I am not doing it right lol

I get a cheap flight to Vegas, instead of an Uber in Vegas I take the city bus at ground level zero and usually hear all kinds of drama while waiting in whatever elements, hop on until the next bus (flamingo 202) where there is usually more insane people watching (I won’t go into details) trust me, I have a mind where not only am I saving 30 bucks on an Uber ride, I get to see free entertainment just by going about my day. Get off the bus and usually see about 10 or so homeless, by the time I get to Caesar’s palace, there is usually some homeless at the edge, last time I went there was a fat dude with two tall boys flicking his cigarette ash into the pottery lol. What a glamorous adventure so far right?

Wait, there is more!

I think playing poker for money is a good option, but the truth is that it's very difficult to become a professional and make a living from live poker alone. But I recommend trying to play poker for money.

Well, I think everyone is different, someone likes playing poker for money, someone likes playing multi-table tournaments. That's why this is your personal opinion, and if you commented on this in the forum, I don't see anything wrong with it, I'm not a fan of playing poker for money myself, I prefer multi-table tournaments.

Playing for money is not glamorous for sure. It is also not easy money but work. Most people forget that part. It's not that it can be glamorous but the likeliness of you become that well off to live the glamourous life is very unlikely.

It is far from glamorous. I'd say quite the opposite. It's volatile, stressful and time consuming. It will affect everybody close to you as well. Most articles I read on the subject, complain about having a lonely life. To always have a backup plan. Only a small percentage will be able to make to the point they live a life of luxury. Not trying to be a spoil sport, it obviously has its perks, you will get to travel the world, you will on occasion get to buy nice things. My best advice, not that I have any experience, but to always have another source of income and to never rely solely on poker.

If I'm not playing poker for $ then I don't know what game I'm playing. Now whether I'm playing glamorously or not won't be revealed until the final table. :giggle:

For me, poker has no meaning if it is not played for money.

I know from an experienced professional, that making money from playing Poker is far from glamorous! Spending a lot of time living out of a suitcase, shaving in public toilets at Motorway services, sometimes having to sleep in his own car.
Thanks! But no thanks, if that is the down side, I really don't want to know. I will stick with local venues and make a little money, but sleeping in my own bed at night.
Many professional players have to have a second income either by going into a partnership with someone, which can cause problems if you are just a sleeping partner and they are doing all the work, or buy property to rent out which brings a whole different set of problems like repair bills and tenants defaulting on the rent.
Basically you are self employed, and I was for 15 years, it is no fun, Great when you are making money, but not so good when things out of your control go South.

I think it's like other sports, only 1% (or even less) has the glamorous life. The rest 99% are on the battle to achieve the 1% goal.

Sounds like you don't have to spend money on the Vegas shows. Might make a good screen play!

The poker player's life is not as portrayed in poker movies like "Rounders". Only the most skilled players are those who are part of the elite players. That is the reality, we are simply fans and lovers of this game and perhaps aspirants.

Some play poker for fun, others love to play and are also here for money, but what we should all think is that we are all here for this beautiful game that always gives us goose bumps.

Yes. It is better to approach poker as a profession if one wants to make serious money from it.

The games get tougher as one goes up the stakes.

I don't know about that. It's stressfull enough as a hobby when I take it a little more seriously.

That's right, you shouldn't play poker with your own money, the best option is to win tickets for $109 and $55, and win money on these tickets, as I did yesterday with a ticket for $55 at 888 poker room.

Poker money is super-unreliable.

One day you can throw with money around, the next you're broke and desperate. It's hard for me to imagine a greater humiliation. If you're dependent on a card game, you're just built different.

What am I missing here? Isn't the object of poker to win money? Cash game, tournament, it doesn't matter. As soon as we sit down at the poker table with our chips, we have invested money in the game. Glamorous? Not sure what that means in relation to poker.
I did enjoy the bus ride, but am curious about the shows you were not willing to share.

Course is...
The only thing that makes poker special is the money...
or do you really think it's glamorous, a sport where even without having any talent, you can win?!

Or... if we're watching a high-level game with people playing and thinking it might start to look like something interesting.

Sad but true! LOL
