Everything in moderation but most of the time we get addicted with poker spending hours upon hours daily infront of a poker table obviously missing out on other aspects IRL. So is poker a bad habit like gambling?

Poker is like a lot of other things in life, it doesn't require too much effort (easy to play online) and it can reward you with easy dopamine and serotonine

Because of these characteristics, it has a big capacity of being addictive

However, if well played it can reward you with money, so it becomes a complement or even a main job

In conclusion, i think that you can't simply consider it a good or bad habit, it will always depend on the person mental conditions

Everything is relative. I do not rule out that for some people poker can be a bad habit, but not for me. There are people for whom alcohol is a bad habit, there are people for whom food has become a bad habit, and so on. But I am patient and disciplined both in my personal life and in poker, I just like order and consistency.

I think it can be very addictive especially for newer players, I play when I want and have time to play.... I don't play everyday or spend hours upon hours playing.. I think addictive personalities tend to make many things addictive so it's more about the person than the game!

If you play poker and lose money, it's a bad habit, and if you play poker and make money, it's a good habit 😂😂

It all depends on how you manage your bank and time so that it doesn't become a bad habit

I just started playing again after a 6 year break. I guess I stopped around the time I got married… :sneaky:
For me it was never too much of a bad habbit. I never put the big money on the table, and mostly used it to chill a bit. If I hadn’t played poker, I would just have watched tv or played computer games instead, I guess... :)
Now that I started again, I guess it feels the same. No obsession, no spending a lot of money. Just chilling with a couple of hands
I would imagine, that depending on your mindset, it could become a gambling obsession. Like most other games involving money. Personally I’m just enjoying the “sophisticated gambling” while chilling, when I feel like it. And the Missy allows it off course…

My only fear is that the software is rigged and I'm just wasting the time of my life. (with 0 chance of winning something)

Poker is fun for me. This is a very interesting and exciting hobby. But if you forget about this and try to make money at all costs on this game, you can get addicted.

We? As with everything else it is your responsibility to make appropriate decisions as to how you spend your time. Poker is no different, spending an inordinate amount of your time in front of a poker table or anywhere else to the detriment of other important aspects of your life is not a bad habit, it is a bad decision. It is not done by most people & it is not a we decision.

It really depends how you balance the rest of your life and whether you are able to stop / don't lose more than you can easily afford

if you are not a pro then play in moderation and put a daily or weekly game plan

if you decide to play every day and you lose a lot more than you win it's a bad habit
you have to think to improve your game before you start playing again.

and if you win more than you lose so you maybe thinking about becoming a pro

I think it can be a bad habit and it can become an addiction, like casino and sports bets. It depends of the player attitude toward the game. I treat poker only as a hobby and only play in my free time.

I think it's a good habit when you study about the game, every single thing like position, bet size and a lot of others

I believe that any activity can become a bad habit if it is used as a way to escape from reality or if it interferes with important aspects of one's life, such as work or relationships. The same applies to poker. If someone is using poker as a way to avoid dealing with their problems, then it could be considered a bad habit. However, if they are playing for fun and entertainment, then it is not necessarily a bad thing i think

It is better the poker should be an entertaiment. If it is already a habit than it is very close to gambling.

I don't think if you play poker everyday or several hours in a week, it'll be necessarily a bad habit. I think the real danger here is the money involved. Discpline with the bankroll management is something that can prevent some bad results, money loss and so on. Other paramater is the time that I invest playing. If I start to priorize playing than be with friends, family, studuying or working, it sure is an adticion warning.

no doubt yes, but it is better to let poker be a bad habit than alcohol, cigarettes or drugs

It can be an addiction, it can be hard work, it can be a hobby, passion, a science for that matter... It depends on each one's perception
