Do you see poker more as a gambling game or as a mind sport? I personally think the mental strategy makes it closer to chess than to slots.

Poker’s 100% a mind sport. You’re not running or lifting weights, but you’re battling with focus, memory, patience, and mental stamina. It’s like chess with money on the line you’ve got to read people, process information fast, and make the best decisions under pressure. At the highest level, it’s not about luck at all, it’s about who can stay sharp the longest.

I agree with you that poker feels much closer to a mind sport than a pure gambling game. Of course, there’s always an element of luck in the short term, but in the long run skill, discipline, and decision-making play a much bigger role. The fact that players study math, psychology, and strategy to gain an edge shows that it’s not just about chance—it’s about preparation and execution, like in chess or other strategy games.

At the same time, I think the gambling side can’t be completely ignored, because money is always involved and variance can have a big impact. That’s what makes poker unique: it’s a mix of both worlds. For me, that combination is what makes it so exciting—you need the mental strength of a mind sport, but also the bankroll management and emotional control to handle the gambling aspect.

Poker demands just as much mental discipline and strategic thinking as any traditional mind sport. The pressure of real stakes only adds another layer of complexity. It’s a constant test of focus emotional control and decision-making and those who master those elements consistently rise to the top.

i see poker more as a mind sport. Yes, there’s luck involved, but strategy, psychology, and reading opponents make it much closer to chess than to traditional gambling. It’s about making the best decisions with the information you have, not just hoping for a lucky draw.

Poker is both a gambling game and a mind sport.
In the short term, luck dominates (gambling).
In the long run, skill wins out (mind sport).
Casual players focus on fun and chance, while serious players rely on strategy, math, and psychology.
Officially, it’s recognized as a mind sport by some organizations, but it's also regulated as gambling.

Poker is gambling for some, a skill-based sport for others — it depends how you play it.

Você vê o pôquer mais como um jogo de azar ou como um esporte mental? Pessoalmente, acho que a estratégia mental o torna mais próximo do xadrez do que dos caça-níqueis.
I totally see it as a mental sport, the luck factor is in specific situations of the game but not in the whole game

Poker can truly be considered a mind sport. It combines elements of strategy, analytics, and psychology, making it a unique and engaging mind sport.

I little bit of both, but if you only see it a gambling game you are going to lose a lot of money.

Hey there,
it definitely is a heavy mind sport and it affects us all. There will always be gamblers who dont understand that, losing their mind in the short or long run. Or the ones who take it serious and understand the game. So its really important to refresh your mind from poker, take short breaks during sessions, use mindfulness and deep breathing, and engage in non-poker activities like exercise or hobbies to de-stress and reset. After playing, analyze your hands for learning, and ensure you get enough sleep and disconnect from screens to avoid mental fatigue.

If poker is a mental sport, as in any win-lose sport, there is always a winner and a loser, just as there is disappointment and joy.

I completely agree — poker is definitely a mind sport. Luck plays a part in the short term, but in the long run, skill and strategy make all the difference.
It’s like chess with money involved: reading your opponent, managing risk, and making decisions under pressure. That’s what makes it so fascinating to me!

The question is that poker is still a game for money, is it some kind of sport?

Definitely a mind sport with risk so there is gambling involved also, so I think it’s both.
