Same as always

Discipline (in game and bankroll management )
Talent
Skills
Enough time.

Sure are more criteria worth mentioning but that's just from top of my head

Live in a place where lots of games are available, and then just put in the work.

Somethings that will help:
1. Join a training site
2. Get a coach
3. Study your hands after you play
4. Study icm with an icm tool like icmizer
5. Post hands for others to review

Becoming a professional poker player requires a combination of skill, knowledge, discipline, and dedication. Here are some key aspects to consider:

  1. Strong Poker Skills: To succeed as a professional, you need a solid foundation of poker skills. This includes understanding the rules, hand rankings, and basic strategies. Study various poker formats, such as cash games and tournaments, and focus on developing your technical skills, hand reading abilities, and decision-making processes.
  2. Extensive Knowledge: Professional poker players continuously educate themselves about the game. They study poker theory, learn advanced strategies, and stay updated on the latest trends and developments in the poker world. Reading books, watching training videos, analyzing hand histories, and discussing poker with other players can all contribute to your knowledge base.
  3. Bankroll Management: Proper bankroll management is crucial for any professional poker player. You should have a dedicated poker bankroll separate from your personal finances. Understanding bankroll management helps you manage risk, withstand downswings, and ensure you have enough funds to support your poker career.
  4. Discipline and Emotional Control: Professional poker players possess discipline and emotional control. They understand that poker involves both wins and losses and can handle the inevitable variance that comes with the game. Managing tilt (emotional frustration) is crucial to maintaining a level-headed approach and making rational decisions.
  5. Practice and Experience: To become a professional, you need to log significant hours at the tables. Play regularly and gain experience in different poker formats and situations. Seek out challenging opponents to improve your skills and learn from your mistakes. Consider tracking your results, analyzing your play, and seeking feedback from peers or coaches to continually refine your game.
  6. Financial Stability: Before transitioning to full-time poker, it's advisable to have a sufficient financial cushion to handle potential swings and sustain yourself during the early stages of your poker career. This can alleviate pressure and allow you to focus on improving your skills without financial stress.
  7. Adaptability and Continuous Learning: The poker landscape is constantly evolving. Successful professionals adapt to changes in the game, adjust their strategies, and stay open to new ideas. Keep learning, stay curious, and remain flexible in your approach to remain competitive.
It's important to note that professional poker is a highly competitive field, and success is not guaranteed. Many players pursue poker as a passion or a supplementary income rather than a full-time profession. Carefully evaluate your skills, resources, and commitment level before deciding to become a professional poker player.

First step is to acquire knowledge, after having acquired the knowledge to practice this acquired knowledge, and after acquiring and practicing the acquired knowledge; be able to analyze the favorable environment for decisions.

Poker is much more than simple knowledge of moves and techniques.

A very good post, nothing to add. There are not many players who can really live from poker. Through the media you can get the impression but it is not so. I see it as a passion or hobby where I can earn something in addition. And maybe someday I can make a big profit. I think every poker player dreams of it. But it is a hard piece of work until then. So good luck on your way.

If you don't have the skills of a pro, it can be a bit like playing the lottery. You might get lucky and hit that big win, or you might just contribute to that pot for someone else

You need not just to play poker, but also to work on your game. Watch different training videos from all sorts of pro players with analysis of hands and their thinking. Work with programs that teach how to play correctly in a given situation. And practice it in the game thus playing the distance.

Money - lots of it. Very few pros actually make enough money to pay their bills. Most of them have another source of income.

If you are able to make a full time living playing poker, congrats you're a pro. And that's maybe 1% of players, most of which are staked.

In my opinion, the path to professionalism begins with learning strategies. You must have luck.
The most important thing is to continue playing for a long time to gain experience.

To be a professional player, the first thing you must achieve is to have studied for many years and continue studying. You must know how to control your emotions and know what your tournament entry limits are. And finally get a box big enough to make a living from poker.
