97s lojack play or fold

Playing full ring cash and got dealt 97s in the lojack,was going to open but I mucked.
The thinking was it looks like a nice starting hand, it's a suited one gapper with potential to hit a hand maybe semi bluff, I decided to muck because i was unsure. Was this the correct thing to do or do I maybe have a leak (mental)that needs to be addressed.

Consider players ahead before opening these combos. If you felt it wasn’t the ideal time, okay.
You can open even weaker combos from Hijack, but it depends on the players sitting in CO and BTN: are they going to call or 3-bet often? If the answer is an yes, better to muck and let it go.

Ok thanks, I'm trying to play more so I can get that part of my game better ( watching what way people around me play) I find after a long session I lose concentration a little bit. Thanks again.
