Speaking from my own experience it was tapping my fingers while deciding whether to call or raise. Numerous times dealers read that nervous habit as "check". :) I trained myself to avoid that by, after looking at my cards, pulling both hands back onto the rail and lightly gripping it's inside edge with my fingers. That beat the tapping habit for me, and started another which is always holding my hands that way during play. :)

The mistakes I think are most common for new players:
Not folding enough hands
Not understanding bet sizing
Not playing with respect to table position
Overvaluing their own hand without considering table action and board texture.

Open limping(being the first to limp) is the most common mistake in poker today.

I think new players want to play many hands and they call super light to go to the showdown.

The biggest mistake is to increase your expectations of winning, especially in each hand.

I think the main problem for a poker novice is not knowing how to manage their bankroll correctly, leading to running out of money in a bad run.

What's the most common mistake new players make?
You can point out many things, but everything I say has already been said before.

I think the biggest mistakes are:

1) Weak self-control.
2) A careless attitude toward learning.
3) Predictability — bluffs and value bets are read too easily. There is no novelty, no creativity, the same lines over and over again.

My own mistakes:

1) I constantly risked my bankroll by playing far above my limits, and of course I paid the price for it.
2) Learning poker away from the table and on your own is quite difficult, and many people don’t take it seriously enough. Most players simply don’t study because it’s hard — and that’s a huge mistake.
3) Since a beginner doesn’t know much yet, their understanding of the game is very limited. There is almost no real strategy — about 95% is intuitive play. That’s why it’s so readable.
No disguise, no element of surprise.
From the betting patterns alone, you can already tell:
AK, AQ, AA, KK, JJ —
bluff or value,
flush or air,
one pair or better.

A common mistake that I also made quite a lot when I started was not giving up on any pair. Even after the flop.
It didn't take into account stek, position, tournament level, etc.

New players also tend to focus only on their own cards and forget to build ranges for opponents. They think “I have top pair, so I’m good”, without asking what the other player is representing.

Once you start thinking in ranges instead of single hands, your decisions get way clearer and you stop paying off obvious value bets.

The biggest issue I see is they play way to many hands and worse can over play them. How many time have I seen a raise and re raise and someone joins in with 63s or 89o. It was suited or they were connected they will say. They flop top pair and jets 100 BB in on the flop after a raise and re raise and they someone jams.................... But I had top pair, Yes it nice but what did you think you were beating there?
