In my experience, bankroll management is one of the most underrated skills in online poker. Many players focus only on hand ranges or bluffing strategies, but without proper bankroll discipline, even good players can go broke during bad runs.

Earlier, I used to move up stakes too quickly after a few winning sessions. It felt good at the time, but one downswing was enough to wipe out weeks of profit. After learning about proper bankroll rules (like keeping at least 30–50 buy-ins for cash games), my results became much more stable.

Now I feel less pressure while playing, make better decisions, and don’t tilt easily after losing a pot. Variance is still there, but bankroll management gives me the confidence to keep playing my A-game.

What bankroll rules do you follow for cash games or tournaments? Have you ever moved up stakes too fast and regretted it later?

I agree with your points... I don't play cash games so I don't really know the necessary amount there, but for tournament games I'd say 100x the buy-in would be an interesting choice... But of course, like everything in poker, it will depend on your goals and your starting point!

Since I'm conservative, I still prefer to have between 250x and 1000x the buy-in... It seems like a lot, but I think it gives you some leeway to apply your knowledge.

I believe that good bankroll management is also part of the skills of good poker players... So understanding where you best fit (in terms of buy-in amounts) is also part of learning and evolving!

I have been gambling for over 30 years. For 20 of those years, I never adhered to any kind of bankroll management because I had no idea what it was. For 20 years, I gambled, and although there were times when I won a lot, I can say for sure that the difficult moments when I lost everything were probably several times more numerous. Only when I started playing in a disciplined manner did gambling, particularly poker, begin to bring me income. It took more than 20 years.

If you're playing for a profit, you must stick to your chosen plan. That's what bankroll management is for. You should stick to it. If you're in the red, you should go to lower limits and keep an eye on your bankroll. Unless, of course, you're playing tournaments for fun...

I control my bankroll 100% , mostly thanks to the very small deposits , so even if I lose my deposit it won't be a damage to my bankroll or my wallet . No reason to deposit big if a bonus is not offered . I don't like at all reading for guys who cannot control themselves , start depositing all the time pursuiting losses . It s so sad

A good and useful reminder topic! You can also create a folder on your computer with every day's bankroll crinshots to watch and remember mistakes) Sometimes a tilt has the wise idea to play big...))) And these jumps in the screenshots are well remembered)))
