I only use exploitable play, but GTO can be a starting point to understand how much your opponents deviate from optimal play.

If I don't spot at least one bad, recreational player I just leave the table.

Like pretty much all things in Poker it depends.
I play GTO when i don’t have reads. But when i have reads, I exploit at my own risk because i risk being exploited my self.
If you're playing online due to the sheer volume GTO will likely be the best starting baseline.

If you play exclusively GTO at the lowest levels, you are gonna beat yourself. Just exploit.

Against the regs yes you can use GTO, though the bulk of your winnings likely will still come from the bad players who you can exploit.
