How to learn to bluff better? I’m too afraid to do it.

I have a problem with bluffing. I almost always prefer to play only good cards and catch bluffs instead of making them. I know bluffing is an important skill, but I’m afraid to lose chips for nothing.

How do you decide when to bluff and when not to?
How can I recognize when I have fold equity and when I don’t?

I think it's a matter of analyzing your rival, seeing how they play, if you see that on the turn they check you and there are good cards on the table, they almost always fold up if you raise your bet a little or they can accept you if they wait for a card for color or ladder, if there's nothing on the river that I can complete and I check you again, it's your chance to bet heavily. Well that's what I do and most of the time it worked out for me hahaha

Well that's what I do and most of the time it worked out for me hahaha

I think position plays a very important role in successful bluffing.

For example, if an opponent donk-bets on the flop and you call, then both of you check the turn up to the river, and the river comes a blank (no flush or straight completing), your fold equity is much higher in this spot.

1)i think well bluffing with complete air is usually not worth it - it’s better to semi-bluff when you still have some equity like draws or overcards. That way, you can win either by making your opponent fold or by hitting your hand.
2)bluffing against tight and thinking players who can actually fold, against calling stations who love to see every showdown - bluffing is a waste of chips. well that's my opinion, idk maybe i'm wrong

Analyzing my bluffs, I’ve noticed that bigger bets make bluffs more effective, because opponents are less likely to call with a bluff.

Your table image also matters a lot. If you usually win showdowns or show decent hands, opponents become more cautious, and bluffing gets easier.

Bluffing is a key tool in poker, and both bluffing and bluff-catching can be very profitable. But don’t overdo it, and don’t avoid bluffing completely.

The most important thing is to pick the right opponent and the right board situation for both bluffing and bluff-catching

I really liked your answer. I’ve come to the same conclusion, but sometimes emotions or ego push me out of line — like not wanting to lose to someone.

The logic is the key, and the rest is just technique that improves with experience. Only practice can turn knowledge into real skill.

For me, bluffing works only with the right opponent and right spot.
I’m mostly value-focused, but I mix in semi-bluffs when I have some equity.
Pure bluffs? Rarely — only if the board and opponent fit.
Never bluff a calling station, but tight, thinking players? Definitely sometimes.
