Poker is not about playing many hands.
It’s about playing the right hands.
Discipline separates winning players from the rest.
Agree?

Sometimes we don't need a hand at all; playing without bluffing isn't profitable

Agree 100%... and yet here I am, having just called a shove with 9-6 offsuit because 'it felt right'.
Jokes aside — discipline in poker is everything. But I think it's one of those things that's much easier to preach than to practice. We all know we should fold that marginal hand from early position. We all know we shouldn't chase that flush draw for 40% of our stack. We all know tilt is the enemy.
And then the cards hit the table and suddenly all that wisdom disappears.
I think true discipline in poker isn't just about hand selection. It's about everything around the game too. Knowing when to stop a session. Not jumping up in stakes after a big win. Not chasing losses after a bad beat. Playing your C-game and recognizing it before it costs you.
The hand selection part is actually the easy bit once you've been playing a while. The hard part is disciplining your emotions, your ego and your bankroll.
Anyone can fold 7-2 offsuit. Try folding your ego when you're convinced the guy is bluffing.
That's the real discipline.
Still working on it.😄

Really like seeing poker being described this way.

Discipline is not only about folding more or selecting better hands. It also shows up in study routines, bankroll management, game selection and even emotional control during long sessions. Players who build strong habits away from the table usually perform much better at it.

In many ways discipline becomes the structure that supports an entire poker career, not just individual decisions in a hand.

Man, discipline is literally the difference between a winning player and a "forever break-even" reg. You can know all the GTO charts in the world, but if you don't have the discipline to fold a marginal hand when a nit check-raises you on the river, your win rate is toast.
