I started playing poker at age 17 at drunken parties that was my rutine for about 7 yrs lurned a little but some crazzy games . when I was 27 moved into a house that had a pool room . all my friends are pool players and love to bet on almost any thing . we eventaly got tired of swaping money back and forth at pool and made a poker nite . A friend of A friend sat in one nihgt ant called a game called TEXAS HOLDEM I was hooked . downloaded pacific poker and took my play money from $1000 to $152,500 in about two months so I made my first deposit there and now play every day at one of 3 sites and doing well .

I agree DOYEL BRUNSON No limit poker is the best GL all

I've also learned by playing online. There used to be a tutorial online that gave you the odds and outs of each hand. I have it in memory now, but I lost the site that had it. Sorry!

I learned your basic friendly poker game (draw, stud, 7 card no-peek:icon_joke ) at the kitchen table w/ neighbors, family, and friends...lol
But I learned the best game (in my humble opinion, NL Hold 'em) by trial and error at Paradise Poker. Been playing for a little over a year now and I LOVE IT.
Oh, and also by watching the pros on wsop tours and WPT as well (love Daniel Negreanu). My husband and I have become full blown poker nuts! lol

World Poker Tour. Then read a couple of books and started playing low limit on line.

Then played some no limit and now tournaments. I seem to be getting a little better, but have a long way to go.

Hi - I learned to play on poker stars. I just went into a "play room" and started ... and learned from there. Then I found they televised poker and I learned a lot watching the tourneys on TV and reading lots of stuff on the internet. I still haven't read a book yet.

I learned poker at around ten, in the '50's in Yonkers, NY. Then I started caddying and played poker and a rummy game called TONK, around back of the clubhouse. That was an education...playing with all those older, experienced caddies. Sometimes I went home without my loop money.

I rarely played hold 'em before two years ago. Nor had I ever read a poker book or studied the game. Now I've got a dozen books/tapes/DVD's under my belt, play daily, and work on my game (keep stats/review hands, etc.).

So, when did I learn poker? Uh, I guess it was ten! Uh....fourteen. No,...uh...56!

Funnily enough, I learnt to play online, using a tutorial I found on holdempoker.com quite a while ago... since then I've progressed from playing with play money chips onto real money.... also playing some games for some decent money with friends. How about you? Where did you learn?
I am new at holdem as I have played 7 card stud most of my life. I used to go to Vegas for a week for 15 years strait and learned the hard way to play :)

My husband hosts hold-em party every now and then, I got bored watching and decided to try my luck...he usually has a $20 buy-in or something friendly. Haven't won yet, but with the tips I have been getting off this site and the experience in some of the free-rolls I hope to surprise they guys soon..:D :D

They had roaming charity casinos here in Toronto. I started as a dealer and then turned into a poker player.

i started with play money as well - i think this can seriously hurt your game in the short term

problem being is that you spend a few weeks playing the play tables your brain starts to think that you need to play that loose to win - and obviously when you actually start playing the cash tables you get your ass kicked;)
id always reccomend new players to hit the 1 cent tables if they were really wanted to learn the game
i actually learned to play on a site which i forgot the name but they had play money tournys i won first one i ever played and ive been hooked like a fish since...was a fish then but not no more......dragon

I started playing poker many years ago. But the games I was used to were not the "Pro" games I play here. I'm used to games like Baseball,7 card no-peek,Burn the cross and of course the most nasty game I ever played.... 2 card guts.

first off, rounders got me interested. i already knew how to play from certain filipino poker games. once the world series of poker became a hit then a lot of my friends got into it. never really started playing online until this past year. which led to me tryna play money on paradise poker then eventually real money.

I learnt to play online at Paradise Poker. Fairly quickly - I decided I liked no-limit more than limit. And I had my fair share of abuse confessing I didn't know all the lingo (what does pocket pair mean:heeeellll )

Won $1000 in one week, lost it in an hour. Went to Party Poker and won $1500 there then moved to noble and won $2000 in two weeks

I learned to play by watching my husband in tournaments. Then I would watch him play online and ask questions as he played
