First experiences playing live poker after mostly playing online

I recently played live poker for the first time after spending most of my time online, and it felt very different. The pace was much slower, which took some getting used to. I also noticed players tended to call more often and bluff less compared to online games. Reading physical tells was interesting, but I’m not sure how reliable they really are at low stakes. Overall, it was a fun experience, but definitely required more patience. For those who play both, what was the biggest adjustment you had to make going from online to live poker?

Well I hope that you enjoyed playing live. Though I played live tournaments before online, the thing that is great online is that it tells you the pot size. That can be difficult sometimes live. Another thing to watch our for is when playing live don't have a habit like tapping your fingers when thinking about whether to check or raise. Most dealers will take that as a check and you might miss your chance at a big pot. It took me about a month to break that habit.

I recall my very first time playing live poker at a casino as being both an adrenaline rush and also a nervous moment. I had watched some tv poker but that was nothing compared to nuances of a live venue.
The sounds, being dealt to, other players interactions, the rules all needed time to adjust to but adjust i did and quickly too.
It became second nature and still to this day i find playing live far easier than online because im far better at reading live tells.

My first experience playing live poker Was in the 4 Queens in Las Vegas in the mid 80s…there was no Texas Hold’em back then…I played 7 card stud…it was so slow and boring…I think I played 3 or 4 hands in 4 hours…

Now, my first time playing Texas Hold’em live was far more exciting….it was a one table tournament…10 players…I was nervous because I didn’t want to be the first player out…my son would never let me live that one down. I played very conservatively until one hand where two players were knocked out…I went from tenth out of ten to eighth out of eight. A few hands later I get pocket 7s and go all in…two players opposed me, but my 7s held…I went from last to second place… I ended up winning the tournament…that was quite a rush.

First of all the adrelaline in live is a lot, also less bluffer players and you can read the pyhisic actions of the people

Unlike online, live play requires emotional control and the ability to read your opponents.Don't hide your cards; keep them safe. Mandatory bets are made by players to the left of the dealer.

One of the things that I still can’t do as well live is to easily see pot sizes and stack sizes. Online the numbers are posted but in live games you had to figure out stacks and denominations. Much trickier for me.

Live games are much slower and more nerve-wracking , especially freeze out tournaments . It's just something you have to get used to !

Human psychology...) At home, you play in your comfort zone... And when a lot of external stimuli appear, you immediately go on the defensive...)))) That's why they bluff less) New sensations, smells, reactions, experiences appear... and also collective concentration... It is more difficult, but therefore more interesting)

I had a very similar experience when I first moved from online to live poker. The slower pace was probably the biggest adjustment for me. Online, you’re used to constant action and quick decisions, while live poker really tests your patience and discipline.

One thing I had to adjust was value betting. Like you mentioned, players tend to call much wider live, especially at lower stakes, so bluffing less and betting strong hands for value became much more effective. I also stopped relying too much on physical tells and focused more on betting patterns and timing, which felt more reliable.

Another adjustment was staying mentally engaged. With fewer hands per hour, it’s easy to drift, so paying attention even when you’re not in a hand became important.

Overall, I think online skills transfer well to live poker, but you definitely have to slow down and simplify your strategy.
