Hey guys! How's it going? When you're in a game, do you use card protectors?

🤷‍♂️ It’s neither mandatory nor standardized: it comes down to personal style, discipline, and comfort level.

I try to always use one. For tournaments, I use the CardsChat card protector; for cash games, I have 3 different protectors that I use.

They used to be really popular back in the day, everyone had one. Now I notice when I play only a few players use one. I personally don’t use one, I’ll either put my hand on my cards or use a chip.

I can't remember ever using one, and I probably never will.

That is just another way for a savvy opponent to get a tell on you.
I have never used them and never will, and also pay attention to people who use them.

While we are at it, never show your hole cards if not necessary.

Both of these activities give up information that gives your opponents an edge.

Only if they look at their cards prior to their action. But this is just the same tell that's possible for all players that look at their cards preflop before it's their action.

You're very clever to have thought of that. Thank you! :)

It's my experience that a lot of the opponents that use trinkets to cover their cards have the personality that they are looking at their hand as soon as they get it and not waiting for the action to come around, in fact some are so pre-occupied with themselves that they are not observing the action as it progresses around the table.
