Due to life logistics, I will be playing online poker again for a couple of months. I havent really played much in a number of years. I still have a BR at poker stars, but the site is so different. I no longer use a HUD, and I dont know if this even works anymore. Most tables I am on, 6 max .01.02 cash, seem to be nits and regs. Is there any way to table select these days?

HUDs still work on PokerStars, and yes you can still table select. It has become a little more difficult with their random seating system, but the way to do it, is to sit down on some random tables and then leave those, where you find no fish, or the only fish is to your direct left. You can do that after 2-3 orbits (12-18 hands at 6-max) and buy into another table, until you have some good tables running.

I dont play stakes as low as 2NL, but there are still a decent amount of fish at 10NL. So I find it difficult to imagine, that 2NL would be only solid players. I played a little bit of 25NL lately, and there I honestly found it difficult to find good tables. But at 2NL to 10NL it should definitely be possible. And then maybe when you reach a bankroll of $500 move to tournaments.

Yes, table selection is still possible, but it’s definitely harder than it used to be. With random seating and fewer lobby stats, you can’t cherry-pick like in the old days. The main method now is soft selection: sit, observe for a few orbits, and leave quickly if the table is reg-heavy or the fish is on your left. HUDs still work on PokerStars, but even without one, player behavior becomes obvious pretty fast. At 2NL–10NL there are still fish, you just have to be more patient and mobile.

Table select still a thing online but way smaller edge than before. I just play a couple orbits, if boards are dry and dudes are super nitty, I just quit and find another...

Lobby scouting is dead on the big sites. They want to stop 'predatory' behavior, so they just throw you into a random seat. The 'new' table selection is Site Selection. I play on smaller, local platforms where the games are softer, even if the software is a bit clunky

Take notes
Color code players
Auto-rate players on hud

You can also get a good idea about a players ability using sharkscope.
