He admits poker today rewards greatness more than mediocrity—so study up guys!

Seems like he still finds joy in trolling Phil Hellmuth :D

If you have a Reddit account, you can see the entire thread. There is a hyperlink in the article (although that one didn't work for me).

Thanks @Shells <3 , it was an interesting read overall and I'm usually not a fan of the "ask me anything" threads...

Someone should ask him if "more rake is really better???"
It would also be interesting to hear his opinion about GG Pokers rules about "hit and running" in cash games as recently discussed in this forum. Like exactly how long should we feel obliged to continue playing, if we won a big pot, and why?

This topic always makes me smile as its a good one- I saw a guy sit down at a casino once in a cash game - he won respectively on his 3rd hand a big pot - around £400 which was some serious dough back in the day, he got up, ordered a meal and called a cab home. I loved that guy - he was back the next week.

That AMA session on the r/poker subreddit was seriously impressive, eh? There were thousands of questions and comments, which just goes to show that Negreanu hasn't lost his touch with PR and managing his image.
One of the main topics he tackled, and a personal favourite of mine, was GTO. He acknowledged its importance in modern poker but defended the need for a balance. According to Negreanu, the ability to read opponents and exploit their leaks (exploitative play) is still an incredibly valuable tool. I really think the ideal approach is finding a way to temper GTO with some good old exploitative play.
For amateur players, his main advice was to focus on bankroll management, which is a priceless tip. So many players don't think about poker as a long-term game and only focus on short sessions, so his comment was totally valid.
As for the rest, he talked about his personal life, which I don't have much interest in, and the poker industry, which also isn't really my area. There was some speculation about the future of poker—but then again, nowadays every big-name pro seems to like trying their hand at being a guru. I find speculating about the future of any industry kinda irrelevant.
But all in all, it was an important moment that showed how some things about poker theory and gameplay are (still) universal. And it's always great to see one of the greatest poker players in history having the humility and taking the time to promote his public image while also dedicating a moment to the fans and those who are truly passionate about the game. Pretty solid move.

Thanks Shells <3

Always love a good Negreanu AMA — the guy can jump from poker strategy to TV drama to politics faster than he 5-bets light. Forty questions is basically a warm-up for him. Curious to see which answers make the article…
