How can we participate if we don't like the (apparently) only Bill in the works?

I am referring to the Reid/Kyl Bill which still doesn't even have a number. I, and many others, do not like it.

Yeah I am not sure I like the Reid/Kyl Bill.. I feel it if anything it will make it harder to Play online poker.
From what I understand if strengthens the Current UIGEA. and also the ability to forfeit all money associated to sites that doesnt follow the UIGEA..
Also to they say it leaves it up to the states to decide Online Poker.. Which I feel will even slow down that process. Which most states are against. Which in whole makes it even harder (like it isnt hard enough under current conditions) unless you are lucky to live in nevada.
Myself I let to see some kind of postive action that allows me to be able to play on pokerstars again. which is proably never.

PPA is still trying to get improvements as well and has not endorsed Reid/Kyl yet (it wouldn't be too bright to endorse something while still at the negotiating table).

I'd encourage you to participate in the plan. The House voted to ban online poker in 2006 by a 3-1 margin (that bill was watered down in that Senate and became UIGEA). That only happens when they really think Americans oppose online poker and will reward lawmakers for banning it. IMO, our overall goal is still to correct that root cause and show Congress that the American people want online poker and are pushing for it.

If this bill fails to get people writing to their lawmakers, they won't think "hmmm....I see the American people didn't like some of the specific provisions in the bill." Rather, they will remember that what they see as a generic, one-size-fits-all online poker bill didn't gain support.

We also want support here to aid in the lobbying for improvements to the bill. Our lobbyists need to show popular support for their proposals.

All that being said, none of the action plans have specifically endorsed Reid/Kyl. Rather, they have simply backed online poker legislation. If some of the verbiage is too close for you, feel free to edit it. Anything beats silence.

Actually the Uigea was added where most people didnt know about to the Safe Port Act. And when they found out They still voted for it becuase the Safe Port Act was to important to vote down. So the 3-1 vote wasnt really for the UIGEA portion of the bill but rather to get the Safe Port Act passed. Even President Bush said he didnt like how they added things to the Safe Port Act that wasnt related to it but signed it anyhow because on how important the Safe Port Act was.
Myself I will not write anyone on the current way the Reid/Klye bill is written. I feel it totally kills the online poker movement.. Even at the current state we are still able to play Online poker, but it is a lot of trouble. We need a bill that weakens the current UIGEA not strengthen it.

The other hurdle on the Reid bill is the World Trade Organization.
This is something I really dont understand why with all the bills proposed why none of it address the issues with the WTO. To me this is the beginning step for regulated online poker. No way can we can regulater poker industry in the country and not address the problems we have with the WTO..
So the beginning steps should be working with WTO and come up with a plan for the bill that makes the WTO happy(which proably includes Pokerstars returning to the US)
and by the article below the WTO is strongly against the Reid/Kyle Bill

UIGEA passed the House as HR 4411, a freestanding bill that was debated in full. It passed 317-93. It was watered down a bit and added to the SAFE Ports Act in the Senate backrooms, but it's not like the Senate loved us either. They were simply out of time. In fact, they voted to ban online poker by a 10-1 margin just three years prior. I encourage you to check out the House testimony at UIGEA House Testimony: July 11, 2006.

I mention this because it's important that we understand the dynamics of the fight to wage it appropriately.

Even President Bush said he didnt like how they added things to the Safe Port Act that wasnt related to it but signed it anyhow because on how important the Safe Port Act was.

I doubt he was shedding tears over the harm to poker.

I respect your opinion here. You're not alone. That being said, Congress isn't looking at anything to weaken UIGEA. Not writing to them won't exactly move that ball, either.

Even Rep. Ron Paul didn't introduce a bill to kill UIGEA. Given that it would be dead on arrival, he instead cosponsored other bills that strengthen UIGEA but allow for poker licensing, such as the Barton bill.

FWIW, in my opinion, time is running out on the federal solution. If this misses this lame duck, I think we're looking at a state-by-state fight.

The US already pulled out of that provision of GATS. The WTO won't force the US to authorize offshore gaming, and the US won't be forced by the WTO. I wish it could happen that way, of course, but Congress is looking at this is a loose end to be tied up and nothing more.

That is the one thing that kind puzzles me in a way. We basically ignore the WTO and they basically lets us ignore them. However at the same time we confiscate money and shut down website outside this country and the other countries allow us to do it. Really nothing to do with the Reif/Kyl bill but just amazes me between the two.
then think about if this bill passes, I think it only strengthens the dispute with Antigua.. But then again we just ignore the WTO, so what does it matter.
Have to thank you for the enlighten conversation.. I feel a lot of poker payers feels the same as me. and was nice having this friendly conversation about it. Most PPA representatives mostly just say this is the way we have to work it or just ignore you.
