Just when Vietnam was becoming a major tour stop destination around 2024 , many poker tours were cancelled.. This included APT, WPT and the U series of poker events.

The NCPC Poker Championship Danang is now up and currently running.

I'm in Danang and have enjoyed playing some of the events. Here's a short video of day 1. Blink and you will miss me.πŸ˜‹

I went back to play yesterday only to find out the day had been cancelled and day 2 for other players had been rescheduled.
They are again blaming it on improper permits. Whether other factors ( such as overlays in the guaranteed events) are involved remain to be seen. This coupled with news from local players that many legal poker clubs had been raided recently shows the poker scene here is still in chaotic flux.

To further prove the point that Vietnam has a long way to go , just like that , the series was cancelled yesterday. I had struck up an acquaintance with a woman who is a regularly in Vegas, was considering living here. This and the recent raids on multiple poker clubs has changed her mind. Imho, I think the cancellation had 2 or 3 factors against it.
1. Too much overlay
2. It's illegal for Vietnam nationals to play poker, that rule is widely skirted and obviously contributes to the overlay problems.
3. Iffy, but again widely reported , to make a go of things here you have to grease officials/law enforcements palms. Maybe they didn't?

Their statement:
The NCPC Poker Championship Danang 2025 regretfully announces the suspension of all remaining events scheduled from 27 November to 1 December 2025.
This decision was not made lightly. It results from unforeseen, unavoidable circumstances which, despite our best efforts, the NCPC team was unable to resolve. Above all, we must prioritize the safety of all players and staff.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause. The NCPC team will implement appropriate measures to ensure fairness for all participating players.
We kindly ask for your understanding and support during this challenging situation. Thank you for your trust and companionship. We hope to have the opportunity to serve you even better in the near future.

I think there are devastating floods happening right now in Vietnam. Maybe a lot of international players just couldn't travel. Maybe flights got cancelled. Less players means they couldn't meet the guarantees. If it's not profitable to run the series, it will likely get cancelled.
