Tournament chips

Why do pokerstars have a dollar sign ( $ ) on tournament chips...they're not dollars..it doesn't make sense..

I agree. They should have a symbol that indicates you're playing in a real money game (as opposed to play money), but not a dollar sign.

And why do they refer to play money "dollars" as "chips"?

If you play a play money tournament it has P instead of $, it's simply for people who play both real and play money tables intermittently to remind them which form of currency is at stake. Also some people play with pounds or euros tables.

On play money tourney tables my chips have no currency symbol - settings?

But are the tourney chips shown with those symbols? If i'm playing for USD, CAD, Pounds, or Euros, I'd like my tourney chips to have a symbol that indicates "hey, these chips cost me money" not "this chip is worth 10K USD, Euros, etc - Oh no it's not, it's just a chip".

Traditionally chips are assigned a "T" value when discussing Tournaments. If i played in a cash game last night and was describing the action, I'd write "I bet $75". If it was a tourney I'd write "I bet T75". If Stars were to adopt a similar system, ie having two symbols instead of one to indicate these two different values (dollars and chips purchased for dollars), i think it would be helpful.

These chips are only valid for tournaments that you have won, but you can play other tournaments with this money, so if you win, convert to real money

no matter what is painted on the chips, the main thing is their quantity and value!

it's confusing, especially for beginners..I was watching a streamer in an 8 dollar tourny and a guy in the chat was asking why they had stacks of thousands of dollars when it was only an 8 dollar buy in?..someone explained they were not dollars they were tourny chips...but the guy still couldn't understand why the stacks were so big...it's just irritating..

Probably this is for a more realistic game scenario. You play chips, but think about dollars. )) As I understand it.

Tourny chips change in value as the tourny progresses ...it should have a 't' or nothing at all...

LOL...I've just noticed pokerstars have removed the $ sign from tournament chip stacks...hooray...

At last the $ sign has been removed from pokerstars tournament stacks..it use to really irritate me..i've been moaning about it for years ..lol..did anybody else think it was nonsensical?...
