I don't mind them jumping around as much as I don't like guys struggling to make weight and fighting diminished because of it.

Sounds like your issue is with weight cutting not the weight classes. Adding more weight classes isn't going to stop that.

Weight matters less the bigger you get. Body percentages.... ..Weight isn't going to be much of a factor if a 235 lb guy is fighting a 250 lb guy. The same can't be said if the fighters are 115 and 130 lbs. 15 lbs is a big difference when you are smaller.

So... Gegard Mousasi felt the need to come out and say that Ronda Rousey isn't very good at striking:

http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2017/5/6...-doesnt-have-the-skills-of-a-stand-up-fighter

Erm... yes Gegard. In other news, the sky is blue and water is wet. And you wonder why other fighters get paid more than you? :p

Wait. So you think the reason why he is underpaid is that he says obvious stuff? Trying to understand your point.

He is a top 5 contender and is def favorite if he faces the current champion. His fights are exciting to watch. So what else the UFC needs to pay this man what he deserves?

No, the reason he is "underpaid" (we'll get to whether he really is in a moment) is that he apparently doesn't understand the first thing about promotion - and comments like the Rousey ones prove it.

Plus it's not saying much that he'd be a favourite against the current champion. Pretty much everyone is a favourite against Bisping, that's part of what makes him being champ so funny.

As for paying him what he deserves, honestly, I think he's probably getting it. His disclosed salary at UFC2000, where he beat Thiago Santos, was $110k (looks like $75k base, $35k win bonus).

Everyone on the main card that night except for Amanda Nunes (who got $100k flat to WIN the belt in the main event - ouch) got paid more than him, but that'll happen when a main card is as stacked as that one. The only person on the undercard that made more than him was Jim Miller ($118k inc win bonus) and he's been with the promotion forever. Mousasi made more than Sage Northcutt, a lot more than TJ Dillashaw (only $50k including his win bonus), Kelvin Gastelum and Joe Lauzon. And everyone that lost, obviously. It looks like Diego Sanchez and maybe Johny Hendricks would have out-earned him if they'd won... but they didn't.

So he's on a bit over $100k in fights he wins, and it looks like his contract is skewed to more like a 70-30 show/win split as opposed to the usual 50-50. He's not particularly charismatic, not from an especially big or lucrative market, and his record since coming to the UFC in 2013 isn't really that impressive. He's got a signature win now over Chris Weidman (in weird circumstances) but he's got losses to Lyoto Machida, Jacare and Uriah Hall and his other wins have all been over middling or past-it talents.

I'm not saying the guy shouldn't get paid. I'm just saying based on the way the promotion currently values talent, he's probably about where he should expect to be.

So according to www.bestfightodds.com Maia is a dog against Masvidal this Saturday. It's a dangerous fight for Maia but he's gotta be favourite here right?

I think the general consensus is it's Maia's fight to lose if he can get it to the ground, but Masvidal's TDD is pretty solid so maybe he can't do that - or can't do it for long enough to win.

I def like Maia as a dog in this fight, hoping his price climbs more before I bet him though.

I've taken Yair Rodriguez to beat Frankie Edgar. I got him last week at $2.35 and he's come right down to $2.10 (opened around $2.86, kicking myself for missing that).

Dana is talking about canceling Bisping vs GSP .........

GSP wants more time to prepare for the fight .. Dana said he already waited 3 years for GSP he isn't waiting any longer.

Dana also put a time frame on the Conor / Floyd fight. If Dana can't come to a deal with Conor and his team by Sunday then UFC is moving on.

Yeah, moving on unless it comes back a week/month/year later than his "deadline". When 1 of your fighters is going to hand you $10 - $15 mil for doing basically zero additional work you generally don't walk too far away.

:dito:

Seems he's just putting pressure on Conor to see if it works and he gets this deal.

UFC isn't looking to make 10-15 imo. They can make that from him under their own brand. UFC need incentive to want to make this fight happen. And $$$$ is their only incentive.

Floyd is always saying he is the A side..... UFC wants to be the A - side with Conor being the distant B side.

In other words ... UFC isn't allowing Conor to make more then the UFC themselves are going to make. Conor can accept that or drop the belt .. fight out his contract and then go after Floyd. Which after fighting out his contract may no longer be an option for him.

I've got JDS and Rodriguez (and Maia), though I think they'll all be close.

I wouldn't bet on JDS.

If I was betting ( and I might )

Edgar - Miocic - Jedrzejczyk

Edgar / Yair is the interesting match up for me. If Edgar does end up with the L .. he should drop down. Not because he isn't good enough but because it would be his fastest path to a tilte shot. If he waits too long to drop down he might be too far past his prime to show case what he could do at 135lbs.

Here in Brazil no one believes in JDS anymore. Everyone's betting on a loss tonight.

The UFC has gone out of style, here in Brazil, a lot of manipulation. Dispute belt they want, not merit.

As expected, JDS was destroyed by Miocic in the first round.

Just finished watching last weekend fights yesterday. Gustafsson looked very good against Teixeira, fought smart, like he should have against Johnson.

He must be next for fighting for the title, against the winner of Cormier vs Jones.

He probably is, but that's more a sad indictment on the state of 205 than it is an endorsement of Gus.

He's 3-3 in his last six, and none of the wins have been over especially good competition (Glover included). But when the only other alternative is Jimi Manuwa... *shudder*

Manuwa vs either Jones or Cormier would be a squash match, albeit with an entertaining build up. Gus should at least make it entertaining in the cage. As for who actually gets the shot, I suspect it'll just come down to whoever is booked on the same card as the next 205 title fight or is available on super short notice when either Jones or Cormier has to pull out because their fights are cursed LOL.

As for merit, for my money, Gus is in an awkward spot kind of like Frankie Edgar or Joseph Benevidez - it's pretty clear he's better than everyone else in the division (now that Rumble is gone), but he's always going to lose to the champ.
